so you would risk having a fire take your life rather than being safe?

I liked this quote from NBC:

"Why the delay? The CPSC’s recall notice raises an obvious question. Why did it take so long for Schneider Electric to act? How could they have received more than 700 reports of problems — including fires and injuries — without issuing a recall?"

Probably... Mine are connected to a UPS or Generator -> UPS -> surge protectors so they haven't been through much stress. I can only imagine how long the stuff you buy now will last (since it's all about cost cutting now)

I guess since you're connecting it using a UPS, the chances of it breaking will be less. I guess the more expensive power bars the better quality would be? I'm not sure, I'm not an electrician :P.

I just received the replacement for my 7 series unit. They said it could take up to 6 weeks. It took about 2.

I have quite a few APC power bars but it looks like the oldest is from 2005. I hope I don't have to wait another 10 plus yrs to hear it has been recalled. I had a least one that failed that Costco gave me my money back on. There was no fire, it just stopped working.

Any UPS on recall, or just power bars?

I have a stack of dead APC ups that I've intended to re-battery if I can ever find a cheap source.

Huge thanks to the OP. I've got one of these which I was certain that I purchased in late 2008 but perhaps it was new old stock.

I think I will take my chances with the older ones.

If it hasn't broken in a decade, then what are the chances they will break in the next?

Besides, the new ones probably are made with the cheapest of materials (copper used to be 60 cents a pound, now its closer to $4)
A US nickel is worth more than 5 cents.
