The first option is $850 and the second one is $900.

Specs wise the 2nd one is much better with the i5 processor and higher end graphics card.

Here a rough estimate for the cost to build:

1) 890+
2) 1300+

Definitely the second one. That FX8320 will be outperformed by the i5 even if it is overclocked to 5GHz. And the graphics card alone in the 2nd one is worth more than $50.
i5-3570K 3.4GHz | ASUS DCII 7850 2Gb
8Gb DDR3 1333MHz | 128GB HyperX SSD + 1Tb HDD
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H | Ultra 650W PSU | Dell 22" 1920x1080 LED
The proud owner of a brand new ASUS T100!!!

Is there a big performance difference between the two?

#2 will perform quite a ways better. It's got a better CPU and a better GPU, 16GB of memory, a better PSU, and an SSD.

i vote for #2, it's decided

btw, the spec is capable of handling most games at ultra setting at 1080p, don't knock on low end it's more like medium range

Thanks everyone, I'm gonna try to get option 2 then, hopefully the guy didn't sell it just yet.

One more question for you. Do you think it's possible to build a similar gaming pc for $700 taxes in?

So today I picked up option 2, gaming desktop with i5-4670k, Gigabyte GeForce GTX770, Asus Z87a, 16GB RAM. I really like this rig but there's one thing about it. It came with a crappy case, all the hardware is crammed in it and there's not enough airflow (please see the picture below). So now I'm thinking of getting a different case for it. Should I go with a full-tower or mid-tower design? What's the most budget friendly case? Also what's a good WLAN with BT card that can support dual bands?

case swap is a big deal, i suggest you make do with what you have, you really do not want to swap case with a built pc

Take a look at the picture of how everything looks inside my rig at the moment lol (picture above your post)

I also talked to some guys over at CC and they said it would cost me $75 to transfer all of my hardware to a new case and roughly $180-200 tax in for the new desktop shell.

What I wanna do though, is to get a used case for $50 and just do the labour myself. However, I'm a total noob at this and have never done this before.

^terrible, the direction of the cpu hsf is wrong and the case is garbage, you want something like antec series case or fractal design r4, it goes for about $80

Any sources on how I should change the CPU HSF direction?

it won't help much in that case as the hdd bracket is blocking off the front of the case, with fractal case you can take out the hdd bracket which allows for better air flow. To change the direction of hsf you need to take it out and clean the cpu chip and reapply thermal compound, it's a lot of work so if you can deal with it, then leave it be

Sounds like I won't be able to do it myself. Gotta get it done professionally.

How much harm will this case cause to my hardware if I keep it in its current state?

you can check the temperature in the bios, you can also do it in windows if you get cpuz and your sensor supports it, but just run it gaming full load and crysis it out for a hour then boot to bios and see how hot it is, probably fine if you keep it under 70°C.

i estimate 2 hours of labor if you were to swap case, 30 minutes for the hsf reseat, do NOT get geek squad to do it else you get banned from rfd
