Just paid $135 to have my summer rims/tires replaced with my winter rims/tires and have them store them until next spring.
Is $50 to swap winters on rims too much?

You can get a better deal elsewhere (half that price). I wouldn't pay more then $50, it does not take over 30 min for a tire swap on wheels already mounted.

Not sure if this is still the case but Costco used to do it free if you bought the tires there.

I think 25-30$ is reasonable, since the tires are already on rim. That's wat I paid last week in Brampton.

I read an ad a couple of weeks in kijiji where a licensed mechanic comes to your house and swaps the already mounted winter tires on rims onto your car..This is all for just
$ 35.
$ 35.

Tires23 $25.00
I'll be paying $125 though for storage and spring switch.

I have been paying $20 in the last 4 years. It's 15 minutes of work for competent garage. Anyone who charges you more than $30 is ripping you off. And frankly, I don't really care if he is paying taxes, it's his problem not mine.

And yes, they take the tires out of the car, replace them and put the replaced ones back. Even put them in nylons.

If you guys are paying more than $50 for a tire changeover, something at that garage is fishy!mathiewannabe wrote: ↑exactly, seems too cheap. must be skipping on paying taxes/reporting income.
same goes for haircuts at $8.
Unless they cut your hair in 10 minutes, something is fishy.
We have stealerships here charging only $40!

IMO, If that your your mechanic and he been fixing your car for years, you shouldn't be charged.

I' won't shine your boots for less than $30. Op is just cheap! Sorry John I think you need to suck it up or do it your self.mathiewannabe wrote: ↑You do the math. If it was like 30$, thats just slave labour. Hair cut these days cost 20$.
How much are you expecting to pay?
Just do it yourself if its not worth 50$

I paid $60 for mounting new winter tires on new rims plus balancing. Then also switch from my summer set.

FWIW, Walmart in Ottawa (Trainyards) charges $8/tire (+ tax) to change mounted tires. It's $18.50/tire (+ tax) to swap unmounted tires.
Honestly, as someone else mentioned, I think $50 is about what you'd expect a garage to charge given that most charge $100+/hr. IMO, the dealerships that do it for $40, do it as a loss leader (i.e. offer to do the switch-over for $40 in order to get you in the garage and convince you to do other work).

I have seen promo pricing at $20 to swap mounted tires. At $50, I would swap them my self in the driveway.

Why? If we change all the tires for our customers for free, we'd be volunteering half the month of october and all of november. You entitlement makes you sound like someone that still has fathers credit card in your wallet.

No work should be done for free. But there is a difference between doing it for free and charging $50-70 for 15 minutes of work. $30-40 is the maximum you should pay for that kind of work, but plenty of garages will do it for $20.valeradunets wrote: ↑Why?
