If you're looking to put together a new PC and are trying to adhere to strict budgetary guidelines, TigerDirect.ca has a couple of barebones kits you might be interested in. Keep in mind, however, that each kit has multiple rebates which you'll have to take into account when buying online or in-store. We know that mail-in-rebates are a hassle and it can be weeks or months before you see any type of return but, if you can look past that or don't mind waiting, these are some pretty decent deals.

MSI H61M-P23 B3 Thermaltake Barebones Kit - $399.97 After $70 Mail-in-Rebate
  • MSI H61M-P23 B3 Board
  • Intel Core i5-2500K CPU
  • Patriot 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 RAM
  • Seagate 500GB HDD
  • Optiarc 24x DVDRW
  • Thermaltake V2 Mid Tower
  • 450W PSU
ECS A55F-M2 AMD Triple Core Barebones Kit - $199.99 After $20 Mail-in-Rebate
  • ECS A55F-M2 Board
  • AMD A6-3500 Radeon HD 6530D APU
  • ADATA 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • Seagate 250GB HDD
  • 24x DVDRW
  • DiabloTek Mid Tower Case
  • DiabloTek 400W Power Supply
The first kit sports a better processor, larger hard drive and more RAM but, obviously, is twice as expensive. This would work well for someone who needs heavy multitasking power as the second-generation i5 processor can handle tougher tasks. The second kit is more of a get-me-over computer and is more suited to users who just need something for word processing, web browsing and email. It's not a bad computer by any means, it's just not as loaded as the first. It also would make a pretty decent home theatre PC.

Both deals are live now but the rebate periods expire at different times so you'll need to order fast and get those forms in to take full advantage.

The i5 is an unlocked processor but I thought the H61 chip on the MSI board doesn't support overclocking?
