Rikomagic MK802II - Android 4.0 Mini PC - From $66USD shipped. HOT

I've searched in the Hot Deals forum and did not find anything related.

$66USD @ AliExpress (Free Shipping, no PayPal): http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/56 ... alers.html
$70USD @ W2Comp (Free Shipping, with PayPal): http://www.w2comp.com/detail.asp?catid= ... tid=630954

Here's the 2nd version to the MK802 called the MK802II. All internal specs are the same but there is improvements in the design including:
* Male HDMI connector (previously a female mini-HDMI port which requires a cable, one less wire to carry)
* Micro-USB powered (previously a DC-IN tiny pin hole, many people nowadays have micro-usb power cables lying around in case one fails, not all, but many)
* Micro-USB port, assumed to be OTG (previously Mini-USB OTG)
* Better IC design with some sort of power protection
* A few bucks cheaper than the original MK802 1GB RAM version

There are no recognized review sites out there for the MK802II yet but here is a review from Engadget based on the 512mb original model: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/07/mk80 ... pressions/

will this replace the WDLive+ box? Great if it could stream movies off the NAS and run 1000 of Android apps.

Can someone post a reason why to buy this? i.e. features, etc.?

Just buy one now before they are sold out, or the site crashes.

However, 15$ shipping in 24 days is pretty cold.

This runs android... And hooks up to a TV. For example, I connect 1 to a HDMI tv with speakers, and I can then mount a FS (cifsmanager, free app), and stream using this device movies/music/data off my NAS through FTP or other free apps...

For 66$ thats pretty safe... and it apparently does 1080, wonder waht bitrate ;) ...

Here's an Engadget review of the MK802 (previous model), just remember that their review is based on 512mb ram vs 1gb ram in the MK802+ and MK802II models.

Previous model, definitely a good price, but the one in the OP is the newer design.

Yeah whoops, didn't know there was a newer model. This is definitely a great price with all the new upgrades. With XBMC around the corner it'll be that much better.

I'm going to wait until netflix and XMBC gets optimized on these things. Unless its changed recently only SD content is watchable so far.

I think I would rather get The Equiso Smart TV tho. Starts shipping at the end of the month

Preorders are:
$69.99 512MB Ram
$99.99 1GB ram

Also comes with a sweet double sided remote. This one you would have to pay extra for a remote.

Sorry for the noob question but would this run xbmc/youtube better than an apple tv besides the 720/1080 issue and would it be an overall better choice? Also how do you control it? do you have to buy an extra remote?

Yep, it should work.

I tried the first version, it's not totally smooth.
The price point is good but I'll wait a year to get this kind of gadget.
It's getting there! just not perfect enough for me :/

Can you elaborate a little? you mean the mouse and keyboard arent responsive? or its the device itself isnt responsive with Android 4.0?

The device itself is slow, even if it has 1Ghz CPU.

And lots of app aren't optimized for landscape - those will automatically rotate to portrait orientation.

I have been tempted by all these mini devices myself! Just to make it more difficult to decide, though, is the arrival of the faster versions:

http://liliputing.com/2012/08/89-androi ... 9-cpu.html

As mentioned, though, some of the cheaper tablets offer a lot of bang-for-the-buck as well -- and even some of the 'brand name' 7 inch tablets are very attractive once you start getting over the $100 mark...
