London teen responsible for compromising 900 SIN's

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has arrested Stephen Solis-Reyes, a 19-year-old London, Ontario resident, for stealing Canadian taxpayer information. Solis-Reyes allegedly used the infamous Heartbleed OpenSSL bug to pull off the thefts, and is charged with unauthorized use of a computer, and mischief in relation to data. This comes after the Canada Revenue Agency stated that roughly 900 Social Insurance Numbers, were stolen after attacks on its website were conducted using Heartbleed.
“It is believed that Solis-Reyes was able to extract private information held by CRA by exploiting the vulnerability known as the Heartbleed bug,” the RCMP stated.
Solis-Reyes is scheduled for a July 17 court date.

Let's just hope that no one here receives a registered letter from CRA.

So.... will this kid get a job at CRA instead of these overpaid government employees that are handling your sensitive data?

Does this mean if someone else uses the heartbleed to steal info, they will be caught as fast as this teen?

Well this kid's probably as dumb as the average script kiddie out there. A professional would have "pulled" the SIN's over a VPN that's behind a country that isn't all that co-operative when it comes to cybercrime. I'm looking at you Russia, China and a whole whack of Eastern European nations.

Total amateur. No security company will hire him since he just used a publicly released exploit and got caught pretty much instantly. You guys are as dumb as him if you think he should work at the CRA.

Throw the book at this idiot.
