it's not a tax inversion...BK is staying in MiamiMasterXan wrote: ↑i am just wondering if there are any useful idiot Canadians who would put ideology/their American paymasters first over Canadian benefit.
I read a few comments on the Huffington Post CANADA and some Canadian commenters' heads are exploding over the fact that BK is doing a tax inversion and avoid U.S. taxes by moving their headquarters here even though we are the winners of that

I know it's extremely unlikely but is there any chance this will actually IMPROVE the "food" at Tim's? Food is in quotes, because whatever Tim's serves now is barely fit to feed my dog
I guess this young CEO taking control and re-implementing things like freshly baked donuts is way out of the realm of possibility, right? If anything, costs and corners will be cut even further? Hmm?

Based on the article, seems everything will pretty much continue as usual, just that now they'll have the combined assets of both brands.

Agreed. I can't remember ever hearing of BK doing anything to improve their food. In fact, didn't they fight to keep trans fat oils in their fryers when everyone else was switching? If people complain about the quality of Tim's food, BK has the resources to look the other way.duckdown wrote: ↑I know it's extremely unlikely but is there any chance this will actually IMPROVE the "food" at Tim's? When an effort was made to create a "healthier" french fry @BK, they also chose to charge 30 cents more. Nobody wanted to pay more for fries.

Looking at the comments on CNN, most ppl in US see this as a success for Canada economy and a blow for theirs. Seems not everybody thinks the same here

I was referring to BK's resistance to switching oils back in '07 or '08 when people were going crazy over trans fats.playnicee1 wrote: ↑When an effort was made to create a "healthier" french fry @BK, they also chose to charge 30 cents more. Nobody wanted to pay more for fries.

As for 'Satisfries', that's just a bad idea all together. Just make them healthier and call them fries.
Anyways, it'll be interesting to see if this brings any changes to the food menus or quality. IMO, neither brand has a good idea of what decent food is, but I'm sure the masses will still love whatever they put out there.

Fun fact - Tim Hortons original partner bought the full business for a million dollars following Tim Horton's death in the mid '70s. A million was a lot back then but still.

It's a done deal
im Hortons has agreed to be bought by the company that owns Burger King in a deal that could culminate in the world's third largest fast-food company.

What's behind the Tim Hortons & Burger King deal
The new combined company would be based at the current headquarters of Tim Hortons, in Oakville, Ont. Burger King would continue to maintain its global home in Miami.
The deal is structured as follows:
3G Capital, the investment firm that owns Burger King, would pay $65.50 in cash for every Tim Hortons share already out there.
In addition to that cash, every Tim Hortons shareholder would get 0.8025 shares in the new, as yet unnamed company.
Shareholders also would have the right to choose an all-cash or all-stock option.
