Battleifled 4 = war propaganda? China the bad guys, preparing public to hate

previous Battlefield games it was Russia lol and look at Russia in the mainstream media currently

Hollywood and the NFL were funded by the military to spread a certain message so wouldn't be surprised if they are also funding video games to brainwash people to hate on other countries, sure helps recruitment #'s in times of war... :(

Chinese state media has taken aim at recently released video game Battlefield 4, accusing it of “demonising the image of China in a new form of cultural aggression”.

In an editorial published last week in military newspaper Zhongguo Guofangbao, Battlefield 4 was criticised for “discrediting China’s image abroad and distorting the truth in an effort to mislead young people”.

“[In the game], American soldiers attack Shanghai [and] exchange fire with the People’s Liberation Army,” the editorial read. “Set in the year 2020, China’s domestic unrest is the [game’s] backdrop, and the US military must fight for peace and uncover China’s conspiracies.”

You guys are acting like this is something new. This goes all the way back to the Korean war and war in Vietnam. This isn't even the first video game to do this. World in Conflict has missions where you prevent the Chinese from attacking Seattle, and there have been many more with a variety of nations all fighting each other (especially Germany). There's even been a Chinese game where the enemies are Americans: http://newsstream.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05 ... -soldiers/

I thought this thread was a necro for a sec, BF4/China had its controversy way back in 2013? This isn't anything new.

Uh, the Russians were the baddies in World in Conflict, the game took place in the 80's and was supposed to be the Cold War turning into WWIII and featured a Russian invasion of the US west coast and east Europe.

Homefront featured a North Korean invasion on US soil.

There's a mission on an island where you need to secure some anti-ship missiles to stop the Chinese from landing too. You don't directly fight them, but they are an enemy in the game.

Let us agree that the usa never fights for peace.

In any case, the whole 'good guy from the west vs. bad guy from the east' has been a thing for as long as I can remember in many forms of media.

They are on commercials, movies, billboards, sports. They slip their message in the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL world. Video Games arent immune to US military propaganda.

Battlefield which is owned by greedy EA will turn down us military money?.

Im interested how much they are paying the NFL though. 10k per salute?.

The Chinese only comes into play in the final two missions of the game and as you said, you never fight them. The Soviets are still the primary antagonist.

IIRC, the military is paying teams to host "honor the troops" type events before games and other such things. Essentially marketing for the military.

As for this thread, wtf do you expect game companies to make military games about when a massive piece of their target market is the US?

It's a good thing the gov't is able to convince people to fight for our country (or at least the US, because come on, they are the ones that defend our border) ... because I'm sure a "call to arms" of the RFD-elite would result in our total annihilation if we were ever invaded.
