Sidecar for Android and iOS are out - make calls, live video over 3G/4G or WiFi

So it seems that yet another VOIP service is out. This time its Sidecar for both iOS and Android.

I wonder how much data it will use up to make these calls plus the live video conferencing feature.

Sidecar for Android and iOS is launching today in what could be a very important addition to your phone call repertoire. Its most basic definition is a VoIP app, which provides free calls to American and Canadian numbers over WiFi or 3G. You register your number with the service and outgoing calls appear to be from your main number, like a regular cell call.

In addition, to anyone who has the app installed, you can share photos, live video, contacts and locations without interrupting the call — the data transfer works over existing data lines while the call is going on — and seamlessly transitions to speakerphone when you move the phone away from your ear.

Saw it as well tonight. Downloaded and did a quick test drive, not bad. I like that it uses your own phone number which is one up on something like dell voice which assigns a phone number. Now, if only it can do texting as well. Maybe, something to come in the next update.

Vonage uses your own phone number too I think. However the free calls to US can end at anytime though.

Did you by chance check how much data it takes up for making calls?

it won't work for SO/petro UMB I assume?

tried it on wifi. no problems. showed my number as suggested.
tried it on 3G with petro-mobility, NO-GO. says searching for server and freezes?? not know if there is a fix.
i guess this means 100%of VOIP do not work with speak/PM UMB (3g)

Vonage uses your own phone number too I think. However the free calls to US can end at anytime though.

Didn't check, I generally don't care. I don't have one of those data plans with 100 Mb/month. There is a setting that adjust data usage at the expense of voice quality. I chose quality to reduced data usage.

Well I don't care about the data either, ie 6GB but would just like an estimate. Hmm that's neat that you can adjust the data vs voice quality.
