A simpler way to make a connection to a pin?

I've always directly soldered too or used a clip that goes directly ontop, whenever I wanted to read some memory from a chip.

But I recently saw this in a video.

What are those things called? Are they actual tools? or did this guy just homebrew his own? I'm curious as too how they stick. It doesn't look like he soldered them.
