Since when do men get engagement Rings? (Hetero), Expanded to discuss,Male Same-Sex & Female Same-Sex cultures)

This is with a hetereosexual couple.

I actually don't mind jewellry, but just don't buy any of it cuz way too many other things to buy, but - when we renew our Vows (eventually), I may just ask my honeybabe to hook me up.

Don't ask me what this even looks like. I can't imagine it's a traditional engagement ring. Maybe just a fancy Wedding band with embedded crap.

Isn't that just a wedding band then?

I actually thought it was quite progressive, I was impressed. Has anybody else come across this? Have one? Heard of such a thing?

Come to think of it:
What about with same-sex couples, forgive my ignorance, do either men in a same-sex relationship wear an engagement ring? or do they both get wedding bands? Heck....now I'm really confused. What about female same-sex couples? Do they both buy each other engagement rings????

We are a Same Sex couple. When we got engaged we did not want rings so we got engraved pendants. We don't wear it but it's just an item or token to remind us of the engagement. I hear some people do give rings (most like a wedding band) or watches etc.

We will have wedding bands for the wedding day but that is it.

I personally can barely wear ANY jewelry (I don't like watches, necklaces, rings etc) so 1 wedding band is more than enough for me. I don't think I'd want 2 rings on my finger.

never had engagement rings... we knew we were engaged, and people around us who mattered knew it as well, so we saw no real value in getting a set of rings, to then get a second set
we just had wedding bands, which is more than enough for both of us Smiling Face With Open Mouth

we really didn't follow the so-called "traditions", and instead went away for an amazing trip overseas after the wedding... but then again, we are not traditional ourselves Winking Face

Off-topic is for topics that can't really go into a specific category; in this case, the topic of the engagement rings is about whether people wear them or not, and what type of engagement rings people would buy... so it's clearly a Fashion/Apparel discussion

People still buy engagement rings? Lol what a waste of capital. Purchase wealth generating assets instead. Bought my bride a 2bdrm condo by University. Now it is rented and producing a monthly income. And it is in her name, so tax preferential treatment.

Nothing says love like a Prince Albert piercing.
It's the ring that keeps on giving.
You should get one of those if you don't already have one.

No, no, no, no. Unless gifts or entertaining clients. Rather buy another income producing asset. Are you even listening??????

I'm with you. The problem is the up front cost is more than jewelery

The other side, people are emotional and sometimes the ring is more important. Practicality doesn't exist in an emotional world
