Skip Locking Handle?
I'm going to be buying all new locks for my new house I take possession of on Friday.
I've decided on a Weiser handleset for the front door (Schlage handlesets got terrible reviews, same problem over and over again with the thumb latch). My question is regarding my two other doors, one from the house to the garage and the other the side garage man door. Both of those doors will have deadbolts on them as the doors already gave the holes for them, but should I also add a locking handle? I realize they don't offer that much security but it is just one more thing someone would have to get passed, no?
The locking handles are $30 more ($65) then a regular handle ($35). All these handles/locks are going to cost me upwards of $350ish so if the locking handles aren't worth it I'd be just as happy to have some money.
thoughts?
//edit or I could save the $30x2 and invest in upgraded kick plate for the deadbolts? (at least I think that's what it's called the thing that reinforces the door jam). Some like this? EARN CASH BACK

Skip the locking handsets. Go to a locksmith and get some quality commercial grade dead bolts. I got some from K2 which use Schlage keys. The stuff they sell at the big box stores is junk compared to these and well worth the few extra bucks. The locksmith also re keyed my existing deadbolt to match with some six pin keys with a combination that should prove difficult to pick or bump.

How much are commerical grade deadbolts? I don't really want to order online as I get the house friday and want to change the locks asap.
The weiser deadbolts are $65 a piece. They have a ton for a lot cheaper. You're saying even the $65 ones are crap?

I had the same attitude as you two years ago. Forget price if you want quality which is important with locks. I'll never buy locks from anyone but a locksmith now. Go see a locksmith and be enlightened.

Unless you have steel doors and frames, a commercial deadbolt won't do you much good.

while it might not be steel frames, I've read online that at least replacing the strike plate with a larger one that uses multiple 3" screws makes it a lot more secure?
