Are you using Z-Wave or Z-Wave Plus? Zwave Plus. I’ll explore getting a few light switches for the home. I understand only mains powered devices act as repeaters.

That's true. Battery operated sensors / devices do not act as repeaters to prevent the battery from draining.
I personally like the GE / Jasco switches. If you don't need a switch, try Leviton receptacle. The GE version is more expensive.
