The idea was partially ripped off the "smashed PS2" from a few years back, but that wasn't a "social experiment," it was an exploitation of Electronic Boutiques extended/replacement warranty.

Some people just want to see an ipod getting smashed. I do. It's up to them whether they want to donate that money or not. Is it pointless? Apart from a means of entertainment, yes. Are they breaking any laws or hurting people? No. They're buying expensive electronics and smashing them.

What's the big deal? An iPod is only a few hundred bucks. Smashing one only puts a small dent in the piggy bank. This is way over dramatized.

What I really want to see is this dude setting his home on fire, smashing his Ferrari or cutting his own balls off. That would be worthy of a web site.
