I agree with you having Wi-Fi is very advantageous. Excuse me for my reasoning, I guess i was talking from the perspective of 1st gen iphone owner. Although with the new rogers iphone, all the data capability is turned on, so if you mistakenly tap on youtube, safari, stock or weather, you'll start paying some pretty heavy charge for the new iphone for the data.
There are quite a few wi-fi, but it's also arguable that if you are on the move all the time, than you can't really depend on wifi. Even on "hotspot" zones, you have to pay for wifi, so it's not exactly free whenever you are in hotspots

I think the OP just wanted to have a large thread under his name.
Anyone can sign up for the 3 year contract, and guess what... pay even less monthly than you are. Although I'm sure the deal would be better if my mom signed up for me.

I'm sorry but getting an iPhone without a data plan is like using a soccer ball for basketball. Yes it will still work and will make due if you dont have a basketball, but its not meant to be used like that. I'll wait till next year for American competitors to come and shower them with all my wireless bills.

Haha, so the iPhone is not meant to be used as an MP3 or Video player? Or for someone who just wants limited internet use via Wifi?
It's funny how you think you can determine it's usefullness or purpose for other people. People can use it as a door stopper if you really want.
As if people on here are actually iPhone elitists, haha.
Not sure which American competitors you're hoping to come here either.

1. Does the touch in anyway seem familiar to you?
2. Selling of wireless spectrum, American companies have bought very few, and hopefully they will be available in the GTA. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/st...b6ba94&k=82916Last edited by Tijuana; Jul 11th, 2008 at 12:48 PM.

Do you guys have a hard time understanding that: DATA is DATA
It doesn't matter if data is coming over the airwaves from a cellular tower, or if the data is coming from a wifi zone. You get the exact same result in your Safari web browser. Except when the data is being transfered using the 3G protocol (talking to the cellular provider's tower), it is costing you money. When data is coming from a wifi zone, its not costing you.
Yes, you get better coverage, and much more reliable connection with a monthly data plan, but for us frugal (errr, smart) shoppers, we can get by using the free wifi zones.
Anyone who cannot see why an iphone is still usefull without a data plan clearly has no understanding about how the Internet and network communications work.

I think the most significant missing software features are in mail. Where you can't send/edit/save/sync PDF/office documents, and attach multiple attachments. Big let down for business customers. I also realize that not everyone will be a mail power user, but there are still some very basic mail features that the iPhone lacks, and having an advanced mail program doesn't do any harm. Also Apple's big push for enterprise customers will be much smoother if Apple's mail client can at least compete with Blackberry's.
BTW, all of these features can be added with software updates, this list just gives you a better idea about what the iPhone doesn't do right now.Last edited by Coolme; Sep 7th, 2008 at 12:37 AM.
