not that hot. if you got cheap data, that would be a different story. and to all those who said the point of an iphone is the data, +100000000000000000.

So even if you just want an all in one unit with phone + mp3 player + video player and you have good access to wifi (ie at work) and/or don't need interenet at ALL times, the iPhone is useless?

I'm using the first gen iphone and dont see the point of getting a 3g if ur not using data.. its basically a first gen phone then. I can't really justify adding $30 more for a data plan. Any1 care to explain the 7$ unlimited data plan they had awile back?

hey, i have a question. if i was never on a cell plan with rogers and i called them up, would they be able to gimme an iphone with no data and just voice? Or does it have to be retention? Cuz i know that the iphone is only sold with data at this point. thanks

So actually it's 5 dollars plan for me.

I have a similar deal, but with $7 a month for Caller ID and ~ $7 a month for SAF I still feel ripped off and ususally end up paying over $30 a month on my cell bill. I use a 1st gen iPhone, EDGE disabled and WiFi for data. My contract is up Aug 27 and I think I'm going to ditch my retentions plan and get PayGo. $100 365 prepaid card, No SAF and Free Caller ID, will cost me much less each year I think. (I don't talk very much, only use about 40 mins a month on my plan).

That was unlimited WAP, not applicable to iPhone.

iPhone is compatible with any Rogers/Fido voice, voice + data plans, I don't think you can get data only plans on the iPhone (at least not the $30/6Gb one)

Not quite sure but I dont think warranty is an issue.. I still have the receipt from the original store I bought it at. I can just reinstall the original firmware or w/e if i need to do warranty on it to lock it up again. I would have to make the trip to US though...

I think the most significant missing software features are in mail. Where you can't send/edit/save/sync PDF/office documents, attach multiple attachments, and select which email address you'd like to send emails from. Big let down for business customers.

BTW, all of these features can be added with software updates, this list just gives you a better idea about what the iPhone doesn't do right now.

this is a very good summary and with my old gen iphone that i have had since Nov. lists some things about it that i wish were there but are not. i would suspect some that are just buying for the first time will be very surprised.

Anyone know if that touchscreen dead zone issue has been fixed with the new 3G iPhones? Last I read, a larger number of people with the 1st gen iPhones are experiencing this problem at the top and bottom of their screens. Designed in Cali, made in China alright

Ya, and what if you have to send it in for repair? You gotta come back to pick it up? Sounds like it would be more hassle than it's worth.

Plus I just did a quick search on eBay. A USED 4gb first gen goes for like $270.
