Snowblower/Snowthrower Watch 2013-2014

It's almost that time of year again. Thought I would start this thread so we can keep a watch on hot deals for anyone looking to purchase one this year. I'm in the market myself for a 24" dual stage snow thrower.

This weekend (Thurs-Sun) is Sears day again and there's a 24" Craftsman on sale. $899.99 regular on sale for $649.99. Seems lukewarm at best?

I bought a 2012 26" Craftsman #52215 with a 277cc engine, heated handles, dual stage and EasySteer for $764 plus tax from my local Sears outlet. The dealer showed me the list of non-current models which are still available from the warehouse at significant discounts. The retail price on this model was $1,299.

2012 Craftsman Specifications Chart is available at this link: http://www.sears.ca/wcsstore/Sears/pdf/ ... _Final.pdf This is a good source of information if you are looking for a non-current model.

I must admit that the spec list for the two units listed are rather lacking in detail. The $599 unit has a 179cc motor while I'm not sure what size motor for the unit that OP posted.

Thanks for starting this thread, I've been looking for a bargain snowblower for the past few months and Sears gets a new special every week or so.

My two cents : a 179cc engine is about 5.5 HP (from what the Sears guy told me). It's okay for most jobs, but I know from experience that sometimes, here in Quebec, getting through that first snow that was pushed on the driveway from the city snow tractor requires a bit more power. From what I heard, 8 HP would be a standard, and there's not a lot of those that came up recently.

Have you guys checked out Costco lately? They already have 2 models in the store, I think Poulan Pro 27" and 30" with B&S engines and the prices are typically $800 and $1000. I'd use this as the price comparison point for similar size and quality. The build quality/features are usually a bit better than Craftsman or similar blowers. I have the 27" and it can chop pretty much all the the lumps from the city plows, just have to angle a bit at a time.

I'm looking to retire my old Ariens 24" 5hp snow blower, it's served me well but it's just way to underpowered for our 4 car driveway. I missed some of the end-of-year sales so hopefully I can find a decent sale before the snow starts to fly.

I'm from Calgary, are there any specific snowblower features I should be looking for, for a Double Garage corner house?

Reg: $1499.99
On sale: $799.99

This will be on sale this weekend and seems like a pretty smoking hot deal! I will have to check it out this week to see if there's a floor model for me to look at. Great specs too. Not sure if the 27" is too big and overkill for a 3 car driveway

The specs for this Sears 27" are identical to Costco Poulan Pro 27" if you don't see one at Sears. Might be a bit heavy for some people (my wife can't use it) but it is powerful for most snow storms and street plow dumps. Takes about 15 min to clear a double driveway. I even took it to clear my neighbours' driveways and sidewalks when their blowers couldn't handle the snow.

Do you have the Poulan or the Craftsman?
