More about Mr. Musk's hubris - going on twitter extolling the virtues of renewal energy and trashing fossil fuels, all while flying the equivalent of 6 times around the world in his private jet on Tesla's dime
But it also reveals an awkward dynamic for one of the world’s most outspoken crusaders of renewable energy: In September, a few days after calling fossil fuels “the dumbest experiment in human history,” his plane burned thousands of pounds of jet fuel flying 300 miles from L.A. to Oakland so Musk could view a competitive video-gaming event.

...

Apple, which made 19 times as much in revenue as Tesla did in 2017, paid roughly $93,000 for chief Tim Cook to fly on private aircraft — a fraction of the $700,000 Tesla spent that year.

I've been saying that all along. Many (not majority) BEV drivers just want the gasoline savings and instant torque and government incentives. Besides exhaust-less commutes, they do nothing else to be more environmentally-friendly.

Who knows how these people behave outside the lime light while espousing their environmentally-friendly business / campaign. There are definitely a lot of hypocrites out there.

Edit:

When I was in business school, I used to see a few batchmates who would throw bottles into the garbage bin when the recycling bin is not even full, and to think the recycling bin is just beside the garbage bin. I don't think they were cross-eyed. :(

And these are supposedly some of our future leaders?

They are up to 3.685 bill on the balance sheet so they should have enough. Of note they have also have an accounts payable of 3.4 billion (up from 2.39 billion last year). They also have a negative working capital (current assets - current liabilities). If you back out the 3 bill of "inventory" on the balance sheet this is even worse. Somehow they are managing to keep the balls in the air.

They also slashed capex to ~ 325 million for the quarter. So they somehow expect to develop and produce the Model Y, Truck and Semi in 2019 investing ~ just over 1 bill / year.

No financing in place for China (and no meaningful construction at the site) yet they plan to be making cars in China by the end of the year.

Also need to factor in missing roughly one month's revenue from M3 in Q1. Cash on hand will be tight.

Tesla engages in period end window dressing to pump up its cash balance by using its revolving credit. Repaid after period end. (Oh reminds me of GEand LEH.)

Auto co.s need cash to run, check out how much "cash" they had when GM and C popped.

Not wanna be left holding the bag.
6:44 p.m.: Shares have turned 3.9% lower postmarket after the news of Ahuja's exit.

6:38 p.m.: "There's no good time to make the change," but this is the time, Ahuja says about retiring from the CFO post. Zachary Kirkhorn, a senior finance analyst at Tesla, is taking over; he joined Tesla just over nine years ago.
So I guess the next CEO could be the guy from assembling line if he's not fired.
