I just found this site on google with a 2 minute video on how to drive stick. I notice there are a few threads about driving manual made everytime someone wants to learn. So I though I would just post it.

I purchased a 97 ford escort wagon (manual) just for learning a stick, the car has 220000kms on it when I bought it, cost me 1500 bucks.
Believe or not, I learned EVERYTHING myself, everything, with no instructor.

I believe it, you might have needed a new clutch in the end but heck thats one way. I believe they would refer to it as applied learning.

My dad made me drive 7 hours from his place to Vancouver in a stick... through the mountains.
That's a good way of learning stick in one day.

Bought the first manual car in 2002 and go to neighborhood street to practice, now I'm still driving the same car....same clutch and same tranny. No problem so far.
I agree, but a cheap manual car. Play it around, learn it. Best way to learn manual. Even myself, I don't borrow my car for friends to practice manual.
By the way, it is a very good video. But your foot need to move faster when your leave the gas pedal and press clutch to change speed, otherwise the RPM will drop under 800 and the car will stall.Last edited by MP3_SKY; Feb 9th, 2008 at 04:32 PM.

Its not rocket science, anyone with a brain can drive a manual...
I was worried at first I wouldnt be able to do it...I bought a Civic Si with manual and couldnt even drive it home... took two lessons with a supposed professional at $60 and didnt learn a thing...other than "find the friction point", "push in the clutch", "change the gear...", etc...
Just go in a parking lot or some business complex and practice yourself, its not that hard...if I can do it, you can too...or ask a friend to show you for a few minutes...

Been driving a standard for over 10y. Feel more control on the road especially in Winter. But that video got so many steps and actually make my head spin.
Feeling the engagement of engine is important when driving a stick. It all comes to practice and more practice._______________
