(I was informed that this laptop runs as if it were a 1.7ghz pentium since its a CELERON M processor which is similar to the centrino

can u explain?

Celeron M is like Centrino in that it operates at a lower voltage as to extend battery life, but its cheaper than Centrino. But the 1.3GHZ is NOT equivalent to say a Pentium 1.3 gHz, its faster. That is about the extent of my computer knowledge

I think you mean to compare it to the Pentium M. Then yes, a Celeron M 1.4 GHz is indeed faster than a Pentium 4 1.7 GHz.
