IEM is short for "In ear monitor".
Description from headroom: "These headphones are very small and inserted into the ear, but they are nothing like earbuds. They provide the best seal from outside sound of any headphone, often in excess of 20 dB of isolation. Also because of the seal, precise acoustic coupling to the eardrum can be employed, and some IEMs are among the world’s best sounding headphones."
