Sony 52" XBR6 ~ $2800 YMMV
Hi guys, I just wanted to let everyone know that if you're looking for a Sony XBR6 Bestbuy is willing to negotiate down to a price of $2800 for the 52XBR6. I picked one up for my Dad today. Their retail price is set at $3900.
All I did was go in and mention that the Sony Store was selling it for $3200 and they were willing to offer $3000 (which they were), and then ask if they would be willing to do $2800. He checked with the manager and agreed.
As a side note, he did mention that their cost on the sony tv's has dropped as much as $300 for some models the past week. A sign of further drops of come??? who knows
YMMV
The price at SonyStyle.ca has been reduced to $3200.

This is a good TV to compare with the 52A750 lcd by Samsung... However, I'd still prefer the 750 it can be had for $3k msot places and probably haggled down to $28

Yeah, honestly it was a toss up between the W, XBR6 and the Samsung 630M which is the Semi Matt finish. They were all so close sometimes it was hard to tell the difference. The shiny coating on the 650 and 750 wasn't an option because he has a large window right to the right of the tv and reflections would be too much to handle. That's why I considered the 630M.
Overall, I did notice that the colours and viewing angles were slightly superior on the Samsungs but the Sonys shined when it comes to image processing such as the Motion Flow. The Samsungs contained far more artifacting when it comes to this feature compared to the XBR/W.
So in the end, since my Dad has been a Sony person for years I figured it was probably best to go with the XBR6 since he would be happiest with that model.
I'll post the receipt later for anyone needing it.Last edited by lincoln; Nov 6th, 2008 at 09:53 AM.

That's a pretty good deal. I wonder if there's any price drops on the XBR8s yet.

For about $2800 you can get a 58" Samsung PN58A550/PN58A650 which is a superior TV.

Yeah, these puppies will come down soon enough with the recession and all. I forget the model series but one should compare the XBR8 to the Samsung model that uses similar technology in the LCD backlighting. I read in one of those home theater mags that the blacks and picture are second only to the the top plasma in the market. No mention of the XBR8.
Also to OP, I am very surprised they gave you the price you mention without having to buy other items with it. Warranty? Cables? What else did you buy. If nothing, then we really need a scan to substantiate your purcahse price.
