Sony a6500 Lens Purchasing Help

So I am keeping my eye out for Sony to release the next gen of the a6500. Once that happens, I am hoping the a6500 drops in price, hopefully. Now, how do I tell which lens fits on this unit. I have seen full frame Sony lenses also fit, will this require an adapter?

I also know Sigma makes lenses specific to the Sony mount. Any help would be appreciated, getting kind of confuse with the lens mount for this unit. TIA.

A discount to the price hasn't happened to a6000 and a6300 when the a6500 came out so I highly doubt it, probably just a tiny bit more off in sale price.

Every lens made for the E-Mount (Same mount design for both APS-C & FF body) will fit this body. On Sony branded lens, the name will include E on it, for APS-C body and likewise FE for FF.

For Sigma and other brands, you just look in the description to see if it said APS-C or FF body.

However, a lot of people buy FF E-mount lens for their APS-C body, just have to remember APS-C body will have a crop factor. So, a FF lens of 50mm becomes more like a 50x1.5= 75mm on the APS-C body but no need for an adapter.

Please note, if down the road you may want to upgrade to FF and mount an APS-C lens on the FF body, the FF body will apply a crop mode in the sensor to adjust for the optical difference. So, if you are planning to do that, then probably should start with FF lenses.
The Devil made me buy it - RFD.

Thanks @hdom. That makes sense now! I am still hoping for the 6500 to drop a bit once the new unit drops. It's been 2 years and price has not dropped that much, so crazy.

6500's are on sale through all the retailers - $1449. Not much of a sale, but a sale none the less.

Prices started to drop across retailers today. Here is to hoping the new unit is about to drop for Christmas and the a6500 truly goes on a bigger sale!

Prices for lens have gone up this year. Crazy how it works in reverse.

It's crazier what Sony has been charging for good lenses! Thank goodness I won't need a 70-200 f2.8 yet. Going to get the kit lens and Sigma 30mm :)
