Sony BDP-S790 vs. Oppo BDP-103

Looking for a new BR player to replace my PS3. Would be nice to find one that plays SACDs too...both the Sony S790 and Oppo 103 play SACDs. New Sony BR models don't play SACDs...at least SACDs are no longer listed in the specs.

S790 is $250 plus GST and free shipping from Sony.ca Oppo 103 is $499 plus $25 shipping and GST from several Canadian dealers...has 2 year warranty. Can't decide?

I have PAL DVDs (Hong Kong Legends mainly)....could use my cheap Citizen to play them....my Malata N996 is toast.

Both play 3D which I won't need or want....makes me nauseous.

The new BDP-S5100 does support SACD.

I think it all comes down to how much you want to spend. The Oppo is the better player, with a much nicer appearance and form factor (if that matters to you).

I have a lot of SACDs and there is no doubt I would buy the Oppo (though the BDP-105). I love you can even use them as an HDMI switch if your receiver does not have the support (e.g. buy an old school HT processor for cheap and hook this up).

S5100 does plays SACDs...my bad.

Will need a new A/V receiver soon too.....my very old Sony STRDA777ES doesn't have HDMI and is having LFE issues too.

I don't see the point of using the Oppo for SACD if you intend to connect the Oppo to an avr or pre/pro that needs to digitize incoming analog signals in order to apply equalization (Audyssey, ARC, MCACC, etc.).

$499 plus shipping and GST here too....shipping saves me a couple of bucks.

Another option is to buy a used Oppo BDP-83 for $300 or so....there is one that is less than 2 hours from me. Someone else is selling a BDP-103 used for $650...more than list.
