Theres a 1 year warranty if you bought from a Sony dealer. I have had mine replaced 5 times in the last year.

Sony ex81
I've had mine for a month and four days, over the 30 day return period of the product, and the cord has literally frayed. The plastic has come off for about half a centimetre of the cord, and you can see clearly the two cables underneath.
What kind of product wears off four days after the return period ends? -_-_______________

This is quite common.
However, I've had a pair of EX51LP for about 3 days and it's good so far. I got them for 30 so it's not that big of a deal if anything happens to it as long as it lasts for 3 months. ( My MDR-818LP lasted that long )

I own the 71SLs, and I actually exchanged them for a new pair on Saturday. I had the origianal pair for 5 months and I noticed about a month ago that the cord connecting the left ear bud to little silver piece that joins the left and right cords was starting to feel loose. No wires were expsed but I didn't wan tto wait until that poit so I decided to exchange them.
At first I wasn't 100% sure if they had a 1 year warranty as I couldn't find any warranty info any where on SonyStyle.ca's site or on my bill which I still had. So I went to the Sony Store in Square One and before I said anything about exchanging them I asked a sales guy anbd he said 1 year, so I pulled out my original pair and stated the problem.
This first thing this guy says to me is that it looked like someone stepped on the cord. Right away I told the slaes guy to not even start with that *****, to start putting the blame on me for a problem with the product. Right away when he say that I wasn't putting up with his nonsense he was like, "why are you getting offended, I was just saying...". I told him not to insult me as I know I take care of my stuff. Any way, he saw I wasn't in the mood for any crap so he grabbed a new paid and just handed them to me and said we were done.
Although becasue I bought my pair during the last boxing week I got them for $60 so at first they were trying to tell me I was suppose to get a cheaper pair but I til them to look at the model number on the the bill and they shut up right away.
The slaes guy also tried to sell me an extended warranty and I kept tellign him no. Why would I pay for an extended warranty now when I still have six months left on my original warranty.
