Sony laptop help!

My gf roommate is having laptop problem...

She has one of those fancy sony laptops, but not is not so fancy... It won't open up windows~ we get a choice of safe mode, last best configuration,etc...
we try them all, but still, just stop and won't enter windows....

any suggestions? she got this laptop from China and forgot to bring those recovery disc..

are you sure its a SONY and not a no-name with a sony logo cheaply etched on the outside... or even a SQNY?
