Sony SEL 35mm

Hello! The price for the 35mm (NEX) prime f.18 has dropped from $580 to $530 ($50 off) for all outlets. In your experience, where should I buy the lens to get any rebates or other discounts (cash, no tax maybe)? The three I have in mind are: I excluded Vistek but they have the same price as well. Where would you buy it? Just looking at saving any extra dollars on my first prime.

Thanks!

Still waiting for it to go back to its original $399 price before our dollar took the hit. Still dreaming.

I'd price match it at a physical store with the best customer service you've experienced ie; who you have a relationship with or who you want to develop.

You want a fallback with pricey camera gear, whether they'll exchange it out within the policy period or advocate your warranty claim.

Any feedback on the performance of this lens? I was thinking of getting the "poor man's" Sigma 35mm f/2.8 for my A6000.

Anyone have any idea if it'll go down to $400 like one of the replies mentioned? I'm likely going to pull the trigger... Was going to last week but glad I waited now for the $50 savings.

Thoughts or projections?

unless our dollar magically goes back to 90-100 cents on the greenback...the chances are very slim
i remember when these were $300 used...those days are long gone haha
do you need stabilization for video?
I personally think the Sigma 1.4/30 is probably the best glass for value on this system..highest DxOmark for Sony E APS-C
most reviews that speak very highly of the SEL3518 are quite old and written before the Sigma's release

We come here looking for deals. We use the savings on the things we buy to justify buying more things, thus filling our homes with tons of unnecessary consumer products. Such is the key to happiness.

As an owner of the Sony SEL50f18 (ha, bought 2+ yrs ago at $399), I'd recommend checking out the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Unless you REALLY need OSS or the smaller size, the Sigma is faster and has much better image quality at a lower price. The Sony is fairly soft at f/1.8 and doesn't get crisp until about f4.0.

Not so sure about the sigma. It has barrel distortion, very large size and no OSS. I would also look at FE 28 f2.0. No OSS but atleast it has a compact size

Overall 35mm f1.8 is likely the best overall for most

I have the poor man's version. Cheapest if ordered from amazon.de. Came out to $190 EUROS shipped to my door. Sigma has international warranty.

Great pics! Just checked all stores and they're all out of sel35f18... It seems to be a really low stock or popular lens.

I do need the Oss for video. Any comments on the sigma for video? Frustrated that I wanna buy it but they're out of stock everywhere!

Looks like I might be getting the Sigma 30mm f1.4 instead - looking at buying online via Henry's (with ebates for 1% back). Thoughts or comments on further savings before I hit "buy"? No other rebates on Aden camera, nor any other companies.

Aden usually has in-store only pricing. Call them for a quote.

The biggest disadvantage of the Sigma, other than size, is the lack of OSS. The faster aperture should make up for some of the difference though.

I managed to grab a used Sony 35mm 1.8 for only $250 back at the end of 2015, shortly after getting my A6000. It's crazy how prices for both have actually gone up instead of down. Not that I'm complaining.

Great! Appreciate it. I'll visit them in store to try the lens and haggle a little seeing as they're at Pmall. I gave the store a call and they told me to give it a free try before buying. Curious as to their return/refund policy but will give it a shot. I know Henry's has 1% ebates but if Aden gives me cash discount greater than 10$, I'll just buy it from them.
