I've tried to summarize the deals in here:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...d.php?t=676881
However, you're quite unlikely to find a deal on XBR6 advertised. Too new. Better to try to negotiate in the store.

IMO, the Samsung is superior in image, but the Sony has less input lag for video gaming and much better audio.
For the price: Samsung >>>> Sony

Samsung over Sony was what my research concluded me to believe.

Cheapest I've seen on the XBR6 is $2899.99 at Sears. It's on right now. Will not be dropping any lower on Boxing Week. The LNA650 seems to have a few deals.

Taking from someone who actually owns both
The age old question, atleast 2008's age old question. I have own both the samsung ln46a650 and the sony kdl-46z4100. I first bought the samsung ln46a650 from amazon (I live in the USA but lived in Canada for 30+ years) so that is how I know of this website. Anyway, back to my point... The samsung's picture did look really really good. It popped right at you but sometimes the dark scenes lots detail, too dark and you can't make out details or not dark enough. But the picture is really really good. It like "WOW in our face" sometimes too much wow because all the primary colors are boosted. Picture like on steroids. Its a great picture to show off the friends when they come over, but after awhile you get to hate the "Wow" picture and want a clean nice picture without over boosting the saturations.
The picture I did fall in love with but HERE ARE THE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH SAMSUNG that noone talks about much:
The screen is glossy (yes the whole screen is glossy that is how they get the WOW so everything and I mean everything reflect back at you, especially in dark scene. Its terrible!! However, samsung has the a630 with matte screen so it is not as reflective, but not as "WOW".
One of the major problem with samsung is it does not do CC (close caption) on anything except off the air or feed connected to the coax connector. NO CC on HDMI, Component, S-Vidoe... NOPE!!
The other thing is if you are watching 4:3 in standard def, you have to do the usually wide screen thing which makes everything look scretched out. On 46 inch it really ruins the picture.
Standard def does not look at good on Samusung as it does on sony.
The qualiy of the tv & remote (fit and finish) feels cheap. The TOC around the screen if look at it up close is cheap and you can see the glue that hold it the screen.
Samungs has too much of a wide border. Slim profile is in
The audio SUCKS!!!
no for the sony
The sony picture in my opinion is better, because it not too oversaturated. Ya the black are not as black as samsung but unless you have both next to each other you can't tell the diff.
Sony picture is AMAZING because it has just enough over saturation on Vivid, but switch to standard and just enough saturation but not overly.
Sony does to CC on all inputs
Sony has Smart Wide zoom so people don't look all weird when watching standard 4:3. Its actually look nice on a 46 inch.
Sony does a much better job of decoding standard def then Samsung. The picture of standard def looks very very good!
Sony has better audio
Sony has a better interface (menu - ps3 style - I Like!!!)
Sony frame is very thin.
Sony fit and finish is much better then samsung. The sony tv feels like a lexus and samsung feels like toyota.. both are good but sony is better
Overall I love my Sony!!! I really do. Every time I watch tv I have smile on my face. I just got yamaha YSP sound projector bar and I just don't want to get off the couch it is that amazing!!!

Hey Showgun,
Thanks a ton for finding time out for writing in detail.
Surprisingly, most of reviews said otherwise. Even on CNET they gave better marks to Samsung than Sony.
I am planning to buy 40 inches and now I will be looking for Sony XBR or may be Z series.

np always have time to help my fellow canadians. I was in the same boat thinking cnet rated samsung better then sony. the truth is Cnet is going based on picture alone. If you read the cnet review you will see it talks nothing about CC (Close caption) not being on any of the other inputs except coax. It doesn't talk about the smart wide zoom on sony and not on samsung. Cnet is only about the picture. And yes I guess if you look at just picture alone then sure samsung has the edge, but for me I still watch alot of standard def and so the sony just won in the end. Also the real deal breaker for me was that I got the sony for $1487 with free shipping and no tax from amazon. that is 40% off the retail price. I'm sorry but the USA does because Canada in terms of cheaper price. I also bought the Yamaha YSP-1100 sound project bar for $443 (72% off) the list is 1699. It doesn't do video upconversion but my sony tv does an amazing job at that so I don't need it. All in all I am very happy. I know my brother in toronto wants me to get him the same tv from amazon and bring it over the border to him. I'm waiting for the price to go back down on amazon to what i piad by so far no luck.

I agree with you that there is no such details on CNET abt CC etc. Also, even I see lots of Standard definition.
Thanks again from highlighting these points since I didnt pay attention to them at all.
BTW do you know any good deals on Sony 40 inches.
Also, how do u decide which model...so far I was thinking about XBR but now I see Z and V and S series too...i m confused

Ya I mean if the pictures looks all distorted and stuff then it doesn't matter if the lcd panel has the best picture around.
originally i was looking for 40 inch but 46 inch was cheaper so i went with that and ya the picture is a little big for the room but it looks amazing. Like you are in front row seat at movie theatre. As for which model I would only got with Z series or xbr. What I have read is xbr6 is exact same panel and insides has z series but just outside design is different. Of course there are a few minor things which are different between the z and xbr but the main thing is z series only comes is 40 inch or 46 and xbr comes in 52 inch. As for w series it is a 8 bit panel and z is 16 bit panel. I would not even tough s or v series because with sony you have to get top of line for it to be any good. I tried the s series and returned it in a week, it was garabage. The other thing I forgot to mention in my review is the 120hZ thing on the sony is just amazing. It like you are watching a video game. It truely is amazing. It like CGI on everything. This is one thing cnet does say is better on sony then samsung

CNET is a joke for TV reviews, end of.
Sony creates a more natural, authentic picture, and Samsung's tend to be over saturated. Some people prefer the over saturation.
Samsung audio on the A650 series is not good. Sony is better.
Matte vs Glossy screen. Obviously different situations call for different TVs. I will warn though, even if the matted screen does not show direct glare, it does diffuse the the light a spread it over the screen, thus decreasing the quality of the image. However some prefer that over the alternative. Again, each situation calls for different TVs.
