Windows 7 lacks a way to attach proxy settings to networks and profiles. This ability should be built in but is not, good old Microsoft.
I found this utility to quickly change proxy settings on the fly on a Windows 7 netbook. It is amateurish and ugly but it's free and works well.
This is useful when for example, you don't need to use a proxy on your home internet, but you do need to use a proxy on your port-blocked mobile connection so most traffic uses port 80!

Set the Proxy values to the Autoproxy settings in your Android phone. Only check the proxy settings, leave other settings alone assuming you are using DHCP for IP addresses.
iPhone and Windows Phone users don't have Autoproxy or the equivalent, sucks to be you!Last edited by Kurtz7834; Feb 3rd, 2012 at 07:35 PM.

I'm not certain is this is already known, but push google calendar doesn't seem to work through the proxy. So if you add an event to google calendar on another machine and the phone doesn't have wifi access, the event doesn't get added to the calendar on the phone.
But there seems to be a workaround on android, similar to the workaround to get push gmail working. In fact, it requires push gmail to be set up.
- Open up the default email program and then click settings/Account Settings.
- Right at the bottom, there is an option to Sync Calendar which you need to check.
- But that doesn't seem to be enough for me for some reason.
- Next, go the global settings
- Choose accounts & sync
- Your gmail account will probably appear twice. Select the one next to the Microsoft Exchange symbol
- Turn on sync calendar there as well
I don't know why you need to do it twice. If I only do it once, it seems to work for a while, but then for some reason it stops working. And when I check, the checkmark that I set is gone. If I check both of them, they seem to stay.
The only problem is now, each new event is going to appear twice in your calendar.- So go to global settings
- Choose accounts & sync
- Look for your gmail account again, but this time click the one with the google symbol
- Unclick sync calendar
This seems to work for me, but I haven't had much time to test it. If anyone has a better solution, let me know.
EDIT: This has started to give me problems. Things aren't syncing back and forth properly. I'd suggest not using this method. Instead just remember that the android calendar isn't going to sync unless it has wifi access.Last edited by FunSave22; Feb 3rd, 2012 at 10:33 PM.

My autoproxy seems to be working even I am on wifi, as my gmail is not refreshing even in wifi unless I manually refresh it. Anyway to fix it so it only works in 3G?
Also, I have gmail, hotmail, and yahoo email accounts on LG optimus one, what is the best way to set them up? Any detailed instructions? (I know this must be discussed before, but this is a long thread to read to find all the info.)Last edited by rivet; Feb 3rd, 2012 at 10:20 PM.

Proxy App for Symbian
I know nobody uses Symbian phones anymore, but I am stuck with N95 for a couple weeks. Anyone know any app similar to Autoproxy (for android) to use for N95?
Thanks

And are you sure you have the proxy set up correctly. I'm using ProxyDroid and it definelty turns itself off when I switch to wifi (it's default setting is to vibrate whenever it turns itself off or on).
I would expect Autoproxy does the same, seeing as many people are using it and no one has mentored this problem.Last edited by FunSave22; Feb 3rd, 2012 at 10:45 PM.

In case anyone was wondering why Rogers crashed your UMB party: http://www.montrealgazette.com/life/...248/story.html
It seems they're clamping down on "unofficial" usage from MVNOs in anticipation of unthrottled usage from their own users. Anyone who thought this would last while blowing through gigs of Netflix and online radio per month deserves to be disappointed, lol. Just another day in Mr. Rogers' neighborhood.

You need to use the paid versio.n of autoproxy to have automatic connect/disconnect. There are old versions of free auto proxy that connect/disconnect automatically. Look for autoproxy.apk v0.33 at the link in XDA posted earlier
Symbian has this built in natively. Each application can use it's own APN.
1. Set up the Speakout APN with the proxy settings.
2. Under setup -> connections, you'll see two APNs - Speakout and the default Rogers APN
3. define the speakout APN as the default APN.
4. For each application, it will eithier ask as it starts which APN to use - anwers Speakout
5, Some applications have the connection defined in it's options - Use the default APN or manually select speakoutLast edited by l69norm; Feb 4th, 2012 at 01:15 AM.

I'm using ProxyDroid as well. ProxyDroid has a toggle widget but it doesn't toggle WiFi. You don't want to run ProxyDroid with WiFi. As a result switching between 3G and WiFi is a two-step process. So I also installed one of the many free one-cell WiFi toggle widgets. Using that instead of the ProxyDroid widget I can toggle between 3G and WiFi with a single tap.

I'm using the paid version of autoproxy from the market ($2 well spent). It automatically switches the proxy on when it detects a mobile connection. Seems to be working quite well.
In fact, maybe this proxy solution isn't so bad after all. When I saw that they'd turned off unrestricted data I was thinking I might port my number out, but now I think it's going to work for me. With Telus the 250 MB cap always loomed on the horizon even though I never really got close. It's nice now to not have to worry about going over the cap.

IPTable
It says AutoProxy needs IPTable to work. How do I know if I have IPTable on my phone or not. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, unlocked, stock rom.
