Speedfan not working...
I have a Gigabyte GA-M78SM-S2H motherboard and I'd like to turn down the speed of my case fan.
I downloaded Speedfan and it doesn't seem to be working. The fan speed % number seems to automatically go back to 100% everytime I restart the program.
Are there anything I need to do, or is it not compatible with my motherboard? Is there another program I can try?
Thanks.

Maybe your temperature tolerance settings are too low.
If you uncheck "Automatic fan speed", does fan stay at the speed that you want?
BTW, if you monitor your HDD temps, Speedfan prevents the HDDs from powering down.

No, unchecking or checking makes no difference.
My system is so cool running that I don't even need the fan but I don't want to have it unplugged, rather I want to be able to control it via software. Both the case fan and CPU fan blow cool air.

Does your case fan have a 3 pin connector that's plugged into your motherboard system fan header or a 4 pin molex connector that's plugged into your PSU? I realize it's a very basic question but I'm just trying to rule out the obvious . . .

Should've specified, it's a 3 pin connected to the motherboard.

In the Advanced menu you will find that one of the chips has several options for "PWM (1-4) mode" - change them all to Software Controlled (sometimes called Manual PWM) and check "remember it."
Uncheck automatic control, change all the speed controls to 0%, and try every fan header. Through trial and error you can figure out which control is tied to which header. Usually at least 2 are controllable on most motherboards.

Thanks, I tried that and all three PWMs seem to somehow control the CPU fan only, or fan 1. Speed of Fan 2 doesn't change according to Speed fan even if all three speeds are changed to 0%.

Author of speedfan usually replies within 3 days. He does take troubleshooting questions.

Then that's all you get.
