Here is what is posted on the MTO site. So yes a ticket you get in New York State is no different than if you got it in Ontario.
Here is the link to the MTO website pertaining to this:
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...er/demerit.htm
Demerit Points for Out-of-Province Convictions
Drivers convicted of a driving related offence in the State of New York, the State of Michigan or any Canadian province or territory, will have home jurisdictional penalties such as demerit points and/or suspensions applied to their Ontario driver record as if the offence occurred in Ontario.
Examples of out-of-province convictions where Ontario demerit points and /or suspensions will be applied include:
Traffic Criminal
Speeding
Fail to obey stop sign
Fail to obey signal light
Fail to stop for school bus
Racing
Fail to remain or return to the scene of a collision

Speeding ticket in New York state
Hello fellow RFD'ers,
This past long weekend I was driving to NY from Toronto and got pulled over for speeding. The ticket asks for me to mail in and state if I plead Guilty or Not guilty.
I guess my question is, since this happened in the states, will they take points off in addition to a fine and will my car insurance increase?
Thanks in advance.

My brother inlaw was telling me one of his coworkers got a speeding ticket in the states. She pled guildt, paid the fine in the mail. A few weeks later she received a notice from the state asking her to pay a state tax on top of her fine, which was approx $400USD. Unfortunately she had no choice since she pled guilty on the ticket. You may want to do some more research on this!!!

I got a ticket in NY, I think it's yet to hit my insurance here. That was 2 years ago. I was literally.. 10 minutes from the border.

Sep 5th, 2006 11:01 PM #7NY State Troopers LOVE to peg people 10-20 minutes before they cross the border... I've seen tickets range from 70mph in a 65mph zone all the way to 90mph in a 65mph zone.

Sep 6th, 2006 09:38 AM #12It's not a tax, it's the victim impact surcharge. It has to be paid if you don't want a warrant issued for your arrest. IIRC, because of the recipricol agreement renewal of your plates and license can be denied as well. The only difference is that due to their accounting practices it's billed seperately where as ours is built into the face value of the fine...

I have heard its a roll of the dice if it shows up on insurance here,, as not always does it get reported back even with agreements set between NY and Ontario

Thanks for the replies everyone,
Blazin_Sunfire: I was going 82 on a 65 and on the ticket, from my interpretation you ahve 48 hours to request for a disposition and theres a date to reply by mail stating if you plead guilty or not guilty.
So I guess a NY speeding ticket would be considered as if the offence was local to Ontario. Im not worried about the fine, but its the insurance that im worried because im only a G2 driver as well.
