Most insurance company would "forgive" 2 tickets, but the 3rd one would jack up your rates, and tickets stays in your file for 3yrs.

Speeding Ticket Yesterday (Insurance question)
Good morning,
I'm 24 (I turn 25 this month) and received my first ever speeding ticket yesterday. I'm not concerned about the amount on the ticket (it's $56.00 I think) but the infraction happened in Collingwood and I live in Toronto. I think I was doing 75 in a 60 (dropped from 81).
No points are at stake here, but I am concerned about insurance. What happens to it? Obviously since I'm turning 25 so soon, I know my insurance, otherwise, would drop. Will it be affected by this ticket? Should I fight it? I cannot for the life of me think of a viable argument in court.
Thanks in advance

That's pretty bad timing. Get ready to get raped on your premiums. This would have a big effect on the possibility of a discount when you do turn 25. I have never heard of an insurance company forgiving tickets, but it should vary, ask yours to make sure.

I can only speak for insurance in Alberta, but as far as i know the rules are basically the same between Alberta and Ontario. 1 speeding ticket... a minor conviction, should not affect your driving record. If you have 2 within 3 years, then perhaps it may, depending on the insurance company. The only one that i know that 1 ticket would affect the record is ING, but there is a very minimal difference.

No insurance companies will forgive 1 ticket, Your rates go up maybe only 5% but they do go up. Fight it in court. Sure it might cost you $40 for the day but it will save you hundreds over 3 years!

Once again, where are you getting this false information?
I have personally been forgiven by two different insurance companies for a speeding ticket I received.
Numerous other RFD'ers have also been forgiven for a ticket. No rate increase whatsoever, not even 5%.
In fact, numerous insurance companies now advertise that they forgive one ticket per every three years. They've always done it, but now they are advertising it._______________

if you have had your license for at least 6 years, and this is the only thing, it will make 0 difference.
a 6 star driver can have 1 ticket, some underwriting manuals allow for 2.
I would still take my chances in court, whats the worse that could happen? the cop shows up, you save a few bucks on the ticket itself.
In the best case, cop doesn't show up, the ticket goes away and you still have some leaway on your driving record.
here's a dirty little secret though..
Insurance companies do not necessarily pull your drivers abstract every year, they really need a reason to.
I started with one insurance company, had 0 tickets, thus being a 6 star driver.. in a matter of one year I got 3 tickets (I know, nothing to be proud of) I wasn't about to call my insurance company and tell them.. but as the renewals came, I remained a 6 star driver and now only one of them is on my drivers abstract, and even then, the insurer doesn't know about it.
I wouldn't worry too much about 1 minor ticket. Especially if you are staying with the same insurance company. you will see a healthy savings on renewal.. in fact, take the ticket to court, so you don't get convicted..Call your insurance company on your 25th birthday, even if it is ahead of your renewal.. ask them to rerate your policy.. they can do it, and you will see the savings right away.
If you have insurance related questions, I can do my best to help.. I work in the field... pm me though.. cheers.
