SPG Mastercard: 6%+ return on purchases, 5 free nights on sign-up!
This isn't breaking news (I found out about it here, so I thought I'd make a thread about it, here's the original post by joseph88).
What it is is awesome! The Starwood Preferred Guest MBNA Mastercard. You get 5,000 points for using the card and another 5,000 for using it at a Starwood hotel (Westin, Sheraton, W).
As for redeeming, you can get a night at, for instance, the four points sheraton in Dorval for 2000 points on the weekend.
Sorry I'm not very eloquent right now, I just wrote a huge diatribe about it on my website. Check out the card at http://spg.com/mbna and check out the article at http://www.redflagdeals.com/deals/ma...icles/credit2/
EDIT: Hotels' categories change each year, so here's the updated list of CAT 1s: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...ings_cat1.html
The hotels in Canada:
-Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Conference Centre Gatineau Gatineau, Canada
-Four Points by Sheraton Kitchener Kitchener, Canada
-Four Points by Sheraton Montreal Airport Montreal, Canada (I stayed there, It's beautiful)
-Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel Surrey, CanadaLast edited by canrocks; Feb 15th, 2005 at 05:16 PM.

Hello Canrocks!
Your comparison website is awesome! Also, thanks for giving me props for the original posting.
The MBNA SPG credit card does seem like a pretty good card, ESPECIALLY if you can convert the SPG points to Aeroplan points (1:1). As of right now though, there is a clause stating that SPG points earned from a CDN credit card cannot be converted to Aeroplan. I'm not sure what the final verdict is though as i've contacted SPG customer support and they're not even sure (ie. how will they determine between CC earned points and hotel earned points).
I also read somewhere that this card comes with purchase protection, which is always a nice bonus.
Joe

Beware MBNA
Careful about MBNA.
Going by the mailings I've received, they are one of the most deceptive companies I've seen. They've also been taken to court in a class-action lawsuit for 'accidentally' charging customers over 90% interest. Yeah, that's blatently illegal.

Great page Canrocks. It make me wonder what I do with all my "free" time.
I like PC MC and accounts because I have to by groceries anyways and shop at No Frills.

Canrocks, once again, great web page.
Just one thing though, unless I missed something, I don't think the CitiB Enrich card offers extended warranty (only Gold or Plat do). What they offer is Price protection. Although they offer a full 1% cashback (rather than tiered), I would still prefer the CIBC Dividend for the extended warranty (worth the $18.75 more you would get with the Enrich assuming you spend at least $3000).
My $0.02
Again very helpful site.

Hey canrocks - your site is the best I've seen. RFD should have a permanent link to you. Thanks for putting all the effort in.

Oct 16th, 2004 08:53 PM #12Props to you! I'm going to the Four Points Sheraton in New York for free, thank you very much! PS: if your username is what I think it is, I'm the same age as you.

I'll look into that. Like I say, the reps do not know much.

Yes, although I think you meant 2000 for one night. 2000 is for a weekend night (friday+saturday night) at a category one hotel. The three Cat 1. hotels that are in the greater vicinity are the one in Miss, in Kitchener, and in Niagara Falls, NY. If you want to stay during the week, it's 3000, if you want to stay in a suite, it's 1500 extra.so if i sign up, buy anything with this credit card, i will be awarded 5, 000 points, and it costs 2,000 points to stay at the sheraton in mississauga for 2,000? is that right? how can i check what hotels are available in toronto or hamilton? thanks! this sounds so awesome
Category 2 is 1000 points more, and there's halifax, kingston, london, montreal, st. catharines, downtown TO, ottawa, etc. Here's the list. http://www.starwood.com/preferredgue...ings_cat1.html
Another great deal is the 1000 points for half off a room. You could splurge and use 25000 points for one night with a view of Central park, or 1000 points and 205$. If you did that a lot, theoretically, your return on credit card spending could be 20.5%. That's absolutely insane in the membrane.
Enrich is only available in platinum.Canrocks, once again, great web page.

Oct 17th, 2004 06:39 PM #14Care to elaborate? MBNA seems to have a bad rap with so many people, and yet they're still churning out cards like nobody's business.
