STACK Prepaid Mastercard
I'm an early access user of the Stack Mastercard and received an email from them today with an offer for a free year subscription to Netflix, Spotify or Tidal! You'll need to activate the offer in the Stack app, and add your Stack card info to your Netflix/Spotify/Tidal account for payment.

Check out the screen grab of the email.

Thread Summary
Note: you cannot change the PIN and it happens to be an easy one to guess. Those of us who have the card know what it is. Do not disclose what the PIN is, else your post will be deleted. - mods

(0) STACK is available in Canada excluding Quebec.

(1) This is a prepaid mastercard.

(2) No monthly or annual fee; No FX fee

(3) To get this promo, you need to install the app to your phone (App Store or Play Store) and apply for the card from there.
*** No hard credit check; only soft check to confirm identity ***
*** Some get thru their identity check with no problems but others are required to do extra steps such as sending bank and bill statements (YMMV). ***
*** You have to wait for your physical card before you can do anything (activate card, load, view account #, change Netflix payment method, etc). ***
*** There's a 3-4 week card shipment delay right now. ***

(4) Ways to load funds to the card:

i. Visa debit ($50 minimum, done thru the app)

ii Interac online ($50 minimum, done thru the app)
*** Check with your financial institution (FI) if it supports visa debit or interac online. ***
TD, RBC and Scotiabank are the only banks that support Interac Online - http://interac.ca/en/interac-online-consumer.html

iii. E-mail transfer or E-transfer (*** NEW*** $50 minimum - app shows this now, done thru your FI, instructions in app upon card activation)

iv. Payroll direct load (No minimum requirement, done thru your FI, account details upon card activation)
*** Used for linking your FI then direct depositing the load (Tangerine, Paypal, etc.) YMMV for the complete turnaround time ***

(5) Regardless of Netflix account (HD/UHD), you'll be refunded a fixed amount of $10.99 monthly for 12 months.
*** Simple rule of thumb: No charge = No refund ***

(6) Regardless of Spotify premium account (family or not), you'll be refunded a fixed amount of $9.99 monthly for 12 months.
*** Simple rule of thumb: No charge = No refund ***

(7) Only one subscription per STACK account

(8) You'll need to wait for the physical card to arrive by mail (and a successful load transfer) before using it as the payment method for your subscription in either (5) or (6).

(9) Netflix/Spotify/Tidal promo ends Sep. 20th
** You just have to sign up before that date and you will still be eligible for the promo even if the card arrives after the 20th. ***

--- HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PIN [posted by Bylo on 01Feb19] ---

Here's how I changed the PINs on both Stack Mastercard and Home Trust Visa, so presumably this also works for other brands of MC/Visa cards. My recommendation is to do this at WalMart because (a) they have no-name ATMs and (b) they carry lots of <$1 stuff that you can test with, and (c) their checkout terminals always prompt for PINs, even when the total spend is <$1.

1. Use whatever mechanism the card issuer has for changing PINs, e.g. the app/website for Stack, the phone-in system for HT Visa, etc.

2. Go to a no-name ATM--NOT a bank ATM:
• Insert the card and follow the prompts.
• The first time you're prompted for a PIN enter your OLD one.
• Request a receipt.
• Do a cash withdrawal from your "chequing" account--NOT your credit card account. Contrary to what Stack says there was no opportunity to do only a balance inquiry on the two different no-name ATMs I used.
• Confirm yes to the prompt about accepting the ATM's service charge.
• Make sure you see activity like "connecting" or "processing." That means the ATM is communicating with the card issuer's system. It first verifies that the old PIN is[was] correct and then downloads the new PIN. Eventually you'll get told that the transaction was declined, the receipt will print and you can pull out the card. In one case (Stack) the decline was due to "insufficient funds" and in the other (HTV) the transaction was declined "cannot be approved at this time." In any case by forcing a communication with the card issuer's server the new PIN got written to the card.

3. If you want to verify this, then buy something. There's lots of stuff at Walmart that you can buy for under $1, e.g. an apple or a can of tuna. Now go to the self-checkout and do the drill. Pay by inserting the card into the terminal. Even for <$1 transactions you'll get prompted for a PIN. Enter the new PIN and wait for the transaction to get approved. You've now proved that the new PIN is in effect. Enjoy your apple.

So no fees on this product. Any minimum spending requirements? What else is there to know?

As a plus, it looks like no foreign transaction fees, BUT do they use the same exchange rate as all other Mastercard products?

Are there Terms & Conditions attached to the email? The wording makes it sound like you need to be a "founding member" for this perk - if RFDers were to sign up today I'm guessing it's unlikely they'd offer this to new customers.

So basically equivalent to $120 sign up bonus, but you only get to spend it in these three online services? If it was all three included per account then maybe worth it.

Seems to be that way yes, at least according to this Stack support page that links you to the official Mastercard currency conversion page.

If its perpetual no fee AND no forex then it's worth it as a permanent keeper travel card. Money transfer feature might be useful too.

PC Mastercard is only $120 sign-up bonus at most. Still worth.
