According to this recent review, this is definitely not within the top 10 for speed, let alone the fastest vpn out there. Download speed is decent, but for upload, you could be looking at 20-60% loss in speed vs non-vpn connection. I can accept 10% slower in download and 15-20% in upload for a secure vpn, but potentially 50+% for either is too big a hit, especially for a vpn calling itself the fastest.

Another deal breaker is the low number of servers that is reportedly much less than advertised. Of course many vpns don't actually have the number of servers they claim to run, but short of paying for and trying this one out myself, I have failed to find evidence that fastestVPN has anywhere close to the 200+ servers it claims to offer. Multiple reviews suggest the number to be only in the double digits at any one time. Maybe someone who is using it can shed some light on this?

Anyway, the price is really the only thing worth considering here imo, but I've personally come across too many of these cheap but unsatisfactory VPNs and at this point, I would rather be running one quality VPN than owning subscription for several subpar ones. I also don't find the 95% off discount shocking; look around stack social and you will find a long list of VPNs with appearantly massive discount like this.

The price is right but from the review "bliz99" posted...

"... don’t count on streaming geo-restricted content ..."

" ‘24/7’ Customer Support is Non-Existent"
[well, at this price...]

"Too Few & Inconsistent Servers"

"Cancelled within seven days money back guarantee, was promised a refund within 7-10 days, nothing arrived 14 days later, except new empty promises. Had to dispute through my credit card company, which cost me additional hours of time. This outfit is still a total Internet con job. Do not get anywhere near."
[Yikes! Astonished Face]

Not much to lose though...

I chose this VPN based on review from thebestvpn.com

Take a look at their Spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... pP/pubhtml

I took a gamble, as $15 for a lifetime membership is sweet. This vpn client really sucks! Clicking on the button to connect to the servers did nothing, even after restarting the computer. I went on chat and they tried to change a few settings, which did nothing. The fix was to get me to uninstall and reinstall the client. Everything seemed good but I then disconnected and again had trouble connecting. I'm not able to get the client to work properly and it's not worth my time. Hopefully in the future they'll update the client and it will be usable but for now i'm happy to keep paying for pia and saving myself the pain.

Try to use third party apps to run their VPN network. I use OpenVPN on my phone, all you need is to import FastestVPN’s settings into this app. There are lots of instructions you can find on Google.

Also, there is an instruction from FastestVPN website: OpenVPN Setup for Windows 7, 8, 10

Thanks for the tip! I got openvpn working fine on my pc. Google found simple instructions for it on the fastest vpn website. I guess they know their client sucks. I'm just wondering if the UDP connection will be good enough for torrenting? I'd read that it's not as secure as other protocols? OpenVPN client also doesn't have a kill switch so I'm reading up on how to setup qbittorent to only use the vpn connection. It is quite a bit of extra work that I wasn't expecting though.

? Maybe get the $15 lifetime membership while available as a sort of lottery ticket hoping that someday they will improve the client?

I was able to set up the OpenVPN on my Asus AC68U (Merlin firmware).
All I did was: 1. upload .ovpn file to VPN - VPN Client - Upload .ovpn file 2. Fill in the Username and Password
Instructions can be found on their website: https://support.fastestvpn.com/tutorials/routers
Everything works great. So far I'm happy with the $15 deal.

I can read...

It would be easier to install a native working client and be done with it.
