Anyone know if you can set up with router to have multiple SSID's, eg one wireless network that goes though the VPN (openvpn for instance), and another wireless network that uses your normal internet without VPN?

Can you tell me why this is better than stock for someone who just wants to set it and forget it? Is it more stable? From what I'm reading this is based in stock firmware but adds settings for power users which I am not. I dont want to spend hours configuring things.
Thx

Merlin firmware has the same interface as the stock firmware. This firmware takes the stock firmware and tweaks and fixes rather than radical changes or collecting as many features as possible.

Just wondering if the Asus ac66u b1 is quick enough to run as a VPN and also to block ads? According to restoreprivacy.com at least a 800 Mhz CPU is required. Anyone running a VPN and ad block for their house hold on this router?
Confused is this ac66u router has a dual core 800 or 1000 Mhz cpu. The ac68u has a dual 1 Ghz CPU, does that mean the ac66u-b1 also has the 1 Ghz CPU?
Here is a summary of VPN speeds and CPU speed.
600 Mhz = 8-10 Mpbs
800 Mhz = 15-25 Mbps
1.0 Ghz = 20-35 Mbps
1.4 Ghz = 25-50 Mbps
1.6 Ghz = 30-55 Mbps

Thanks OP, I picked the router this afternoon.
Currentlying I have a RT-N66U running Tomato as my router but I will use the new RT-AC66U B1 as my router and put Merlin on it and I want to use the N66U as an access point.
Do I just use the tomato firmware to put into access point mode? Any point on putting Merlin firmware on this older model? Anything else that I should need to do to get better coverage?
If you have a link to share that would be useful guide I would appreciate that
Thanks

I was super close in buying this but think I will hold off until BF. Sharing my $15 off $150 to help resist the urge. If you are buying additional items feel free to grab it, just respond in the thread that its used.

No, this router came out last October. This version has the 1.0 GHz dual-core processor, non-removable antennas and with RT-AC68U Asuswrt-Merlin firmware can unlock TurboQAM on 2.4GHz.
from https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1033319
Asus RT-AC1750 comes in two hardware versions:
RT-AC1750 B1 = RT-AC66U B1 -> Merlin RT-AC68U firmware
RT-AC1750 = RT-AC66U -> Merlin RT-AC66U firmware
The newer B1 version is bigger, thicker and has 1 x USB 3.0 port at the front and 1 x USB 2.0 port at the back. It's a RT-AC68U similar hardware with dual core CPU. The older one is smaller, thinner and has 2 x USB 2.0 ports at the back. It's a RT-N66U similar hardware with single core CPU.
The newer B1 comes with 3 x non-removable antennas, the older one has 3 x removable antennas.
Hope this helps and prevents random firmware flashing.
BTW, RT-AC1750 B1 is in fact AC1900 router, just like RT-AC68U. It supports TurboQAM on 2.4GHz, so max 600MBps on 2.4GHz + max 1300Mbps on 5GHz = max 1900Mbps. Something ASUS don't want you to know about. Merlin firmware unlocks this feature.

The 2 expiring on Oct 5th aren't probably $10 off $100 as I got the message saying I hadn't reached the minimum.HammerRFDer wrote: ↑ $10 off $100 until Oct 5th:

RFD effect of buying without thinking much... I'm using Shaw's cable modem at the moment but the lack of VPN and QoS makes me need this one, should be enough for just 2 people using it.
