I got the 8710 from the store during lunch. I decided to sweeten the pot and got a $12.00 2yr warrant from Staples, knowing full well that the printer is going out of production and if something goes wrong staples will have to replace the printer.

Great deal, OP

Definitely a YMWV. Cashier quote me extended warranty price on the $70 price also. Didn't bother getting it since I have no plans to return unit within the 2 years as the sales associate kept insisting.
I was quoted $11.99 for 1 year (I think?, maybe 2?). Wasn't listening too carefully as I did not intend to get a warranty for a $12 out of pocket purchase. The employee also said that the coverage would be for up to the price before the trade-in credit so $70 (approx.). She did not say that meant that Staples would replace the printer outright - only cover up to $70 credit (probably towards the purchase of a new printer) and I'm not sure that you could get any of that back as cash...

Years ago, I had a warranty for a printer that stopped working. Do not recall all of the details but essentially the actual coverage that they offered was not even worth my while. Learned my lesson. Winking Face

Has anyone else been charged a $5 recycling fee?
Charge $1.25 in QC.
Varies from province to province.

Thanks OP!
I can't afford to save that much!

Found 9 8710's in my Truro, NS location. Manager apparently thought it was too good to be true, but it worked out 100% fine. ~$14 with our environment fee here in NS.

Two questions:
1) the staples guy trying to sell me ink was saying that the ink on this is only good for 15 pages lol. Does anyone know what the yield on the starter ink on it?
2) as per OP it looks like the cheaper option is to go to Costco for ink refill. 20$ per XL so 4x20= 80$. Is my understanding valid?

Fact check, none of the above is valid.

Starter 700 black 400 colour as per HP website.
I read elsewhere that Costco will fill regular 952 cartridges to capacity, and 952 / 952XL have the same tank volume physically.
Staples has 25% off sale on HP cartridges right now, and 952 are slightly cheaper than at Costco. The starter pack should last until Black Friday for me though, lol.

Yes, but you need to have XL cartridges for them to refill. 123ink was on sale yesterday and brought the combo set to $72. 952 XL black is on sale at amazon for $39.99

Are the starter cartridges half the size of the XL you would buy at retail?

Placed an in store pick up order at 12 pm at 945 Eglinton ave, Toronto location. Got confirmation at 12:14 that the order is ready for pick up. Got a cancellation notice at 2 pm that they could not hold the order any longer. Called the store. They said the inventory was false. They do not have any units available. I think one of the store employees bought it and cancelled mine. Well, I felt bad. Then I told myself, they should get some perks for working at minimum wage at the retail. I should not complain. Good luck to whoever got it.
It happened to me twice. I emailed staples after they cancelled my first order. Staples said they have it in stock and ask me to place an order again. I emailed staples again after they cancelled my second order. A guy said he physically call the store and the store confirms they have it in stock. And he said a staff from that store should contact me within 48hours. Of course I didn’t receive any call.

Seems like starter ink is less than half of XL. Starter BK is 700-800, XL BK is 2000
