I have 8710 with firmware WBP2CN1910AR Built Date 2019-03-05
No DRM
so now they got various versions of the firmware which end users have no access to, some have DRM like from their webpage dated Feb 2019, others show by their program doesn't have DRM. What a mess.

Some models have drm, the 8710,8720 line has always been exempt from the drm firmware. My Feb firmware had no drm either.

Disable the automatic updates, or it'll update to latest firmware from Feb 2019 which has the DRM and prevents you from using 3rd party cartridges. There is no older firmware to go back to once you make this mistake.
For me in the Printer Update Options, 'Install updates automatically (required)' is selected and I can't change it to 'Alert me when updates are available' or 'Do not check for updates.' Not sure if this is because I'm on instant ink, as there's a note on the bottom that says this printer is enrolled in instant ink.

I use 123ink
That's the one I was going to try, I used their ink in an old Canon and it worked well.

Moustache appears to be hacked old hp cartridges refilled. The 8710 will complain your putting your valuable printing jobs in great danger with non hp, but will still take them.

Are you getting the March firmware by clicking on check firmware updates from the HP software?

I know this is not the right thread ...but does anyone have any opinion for what can be a good and still cheap I know colour printer for small business .

Printing reports for patients about 5-10 colour pages per day (average )

Already have a good solid black white printer

Which can print 6000 avg per toner and ink not so expensive

It auto updates. I've never applied a update manually.

Mine did the same .. updated to this version.

My warranty was also updated to the correct date online, automatically.

I think I get Moustache laser toner from 123ink, which has been reliable enough but this is good to know. Thanks.

I can't tell you about long term cost and reliability, but the 8720 is crazy fast, like almost laser fast. The legal-sized scanner and ADF is useful but the included Readiris software is subpar for scans/OCR/deskew.

Ditto. I turned off auto updates when I got the printer last week. After enroling in Instant Ink, I can't disable auto updates. But I am still WBP2CN1716AR. Should it get forced updated, I'll be fine if printer gets blocked using 3rd party cartridges since I'll stay on the free Instant Ink plan
