It should never happen. You need to regrease your cpu and clean the heatsink and fan. Even a tl64 in a tx1000 will not overheat and die at 100%cpu if it has the proper thermal protection.

I only say this not to be a know it all, but you are shortening the lifespan of your system, even if you don't let it overheat.
Too much work for a 2+ year old laptop.

I do use a cooler to compensate. I don't plan on using this laptop for 8+ years.

Got mine today, it's not bad for casual laptop users who use it on the bed.

That is true but with the padded mat thick enough (I'm thinking laptop sleeves), I doubt heat will ever reach the other side adjacent to one's legs/thighs

Too bad it's getting cold here in the GTA and that extra heat should help warm me up.
That's actually not a good idea. All you're doing is blocking air circulation with a soft material like that.

I've had my Zalman laptop cooling pad for I think about 4-5 years now, got it for $50... Lowers the temp by about 10 degrees C idle, more when playing games.

I've used one ever since I got a laptop, and it's great when playing games. Keeps it cool, and doesn't get your privates/thighs warm which is a huge plus. Granted laptop never leaves home, so it's always plugged in, so I don't care about the battery life.
