[Staples] ZOTAC GTX 780 AMP Edition

A decent deal?

Price matched with FutureShop on the phone to $313.50 + tax, and can load on the FS card, meaning 6 months to pay off with no interest.

The card performs on par with 780 Ti, so it's about the same as GTX 970, speedwise, for $313.50+tax.

Should I keep it or get a GTX 970?

The 970 would be a much better bet I'm afraid. Far superior thermal and energy considerations, at least somewhat better performance, etc.

wow, I was going to post this deal and you were faster than me! Anyway I ordered this one. Seems a very good deal. I think the performance should be very close to the 970.
I used a 20$ coupon and I think this deal is HOT

780 Ti faster than 970 in all 5 games, in all 3 resolutions.

Also, re "Far superior thermal", this card is one of the coolest on the market. Won't go above 70 degrees Celcius under heavy load.

The zotac is a 780 not 780ti
Price errors are the only real sales :)
I refused to be gouged by canadian retailers when purchases can be made in the U.S for a LOT less..

This deal is for a 780, not a 780 TI. The TI is 5-10% faster than the 780. The 780 TI and 970 are comparable, both are faster than the 780
That's 30 minutes away, I'll be there in 10.

780 AMP! is about the same as 780 Ti, 780 AMP! is factory clocked by about 20% higher than stock.

I think your math is off - FS price match would bring this down to 286.49 + Tax (10% of the difference would be 28.5) so you're looking at approximately 323.73 (ontario) + any EHF that may be on it ?
however you'd have to do this fast as FS has 6 in stock online so when they get to the point of "limited quantity" they'll say they cant match based on their policy - however if its found instore they cant use that excuse

They factor in taxes on $599. I was surprised too.

So i'm going to tell you straight up - the rep that you talked to was full of BS - they don't include the tax in any pre-sale calculations, i've PM'd 100 times from these stores - the only thing that *may* be added into the calculation is the competitions shipping charges, which in this case is free according to the staples site.
This is what it should be:
314.99 - ((599.99-314.99)*.1)
then tack on any shipping charges (staples says "Free shipping" so nothing extra there) and tack on taxes for your region at that point.

you may want to ask them to explain the math because there's no calculation that ends in $313.50 unless additional hidden numbers are brought into the calculation. even if they screwed up and did 1% of the difference (closest possible thing i can think of) you're sitting at 2.85 as the discount which doesn't hit the mark.

I'll simply return the FS card, I ended up paying $279.99+tax for the Staples one.
Thank you, by the way, I'll make sure they don't give me this BS next time I deal with FS.

you can add an extra $25-off if you have one from the mail, so $60 in coupons. ($288.14 after taxes)

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/ ... 73219.aspx

cheaper to use coupons at Staples.

edit: well you'd need a $10 filler too, since coupons to stack would be $15 off $100, $20 off $150 and $25 off $75 ($325)

NP - sorry you had a bad experience with them

i've learned to expect that from FS. Sadly BB same parent company i have far less problems with and they seem alot more helpful. for bigger purchases i take the extra 12 minutes to drive to the BB now instead of the FS right beside my house >.< its quite sad.

the 780 amp! is just 780 overclocked? because a 780TI is not a 780 overclocked, it does have more shader core(cuda as nvidia call it), it's just like 750 overclocked is not 750 ti or 660 vs 660 ti, right?

please correct me if I'm wrong. Is the amp so overclocked that it has the same performance than the 780 TI?

thank you

It's tempting, but the 3GB of memory worries me. I can see that quickly becoming a bottleneck.
