There is a digital counter on the cup. They have a special reader to read the number every time you get a refill
Can anyone confirm if this is true? D:

The argument that something is worth less where there is no similar tax is upside down and applies to every taxable item there is.
Nobody would pay $50 on a tumbler without the free coffee. Say the tumbler is worth $10. You should pay $0.80 in Ontario tax as the hot coffee would be purchased without provincial tax. But by buying the hot coffee via the $50 tumbler, you are paying $3.20 extra in provincial tax. That’s why you need 2 extra visits in Ontario and BC to make this worthwhile (you can’t make half a visit).

That math doesn’t apply to other provinces as provincial taxes are the same for tumblers and hot coffee.

It's false. It's actually Bluetooth enabled and it counts up by 1 for each store visit when you pass through the doors.

The 2018 version use RFID now. There was too much problems with the bt version in previous years, and RFDers were able to get away with multiply store visits.

RFID was so mid 2000's. The cups are obviously geo fencing enabled. Go a second time and the cups change colors to red to mean no go.

Don't forget after January you can keep using these cups and save 10 cents. Used mine this morning.

I heard Starbucks has installed face recognition software this year to prevent getting more than 1 refill a day with this Tumbler.

They should also have special privilege factored in with buying the tumbler to avoid having to stand in lineups. Use the app on your phone to order your coffee indicating you are using the Christmas special tumbler, then proceed to the mobile pickup counter and hand them your tumbler so it gets filled and avoids waiting in line.

This has steadily gone up in price since it first came out...still a good deal though.
Number of costumers using the same tumbler, according to this thread, also going up tru the roof... They are not blind nor stupid.

Anyone know if these can be used across the border? I'll be in the states until the first weekend in January. It would be worth it if I can start using it right away.
I used mine last year near the Walden Galleria in Buffalo and was able to get free coffee :)

Anyone do it last year and know if you can go multiple times a day? How would they know if you went to a different location? Because otherwise $2.50 x 5(weekdays) x 4(weeks) = $50 so you are losing money on the tumbler after tax! (if you dont care about the tumbler) I go almost every week day but it doesnt look to be worth the hassle for me if its just 1 a day.
