I attended a similar event when Zip first came to Toronto and have to say the food was bland and cold, the beverages was coffee but had no sugar or milk or crem,e. The "free" gift for first few in the door was only handed out to those who signed up.

The event in Vancouver was rather good. Gave variety & many cups(approx. value $15) to first several hundred people in line (no need for invite). Plenty of coffee & snacks; restocked when necessary(many many times). Also made specialty coffees for all to test out. Gave out coupons for free cups of coffee for later.
To entice the people there to sign up for the Zipcar deal; large value Starbucks GC & coupons were included in the deal and many signed up.
I had a good time and all my friends did enjoy the event here.
