While that may be true, I have to stop and think that if he can get items over there much faster than other couriers, then why haven't other couriers done this yet.

Not saying there's no room for innovation in the game of logistics and shipping, and I'm not the only one with this opinion, the post was meant not as a personal attack but to add to the thought process with the intention of meaning 'be careful and don't go bankrupt'

Not hard time finding tape but Op's is looking for cheaper tape (that is what is what a business supposed to do right? in order to survive).
And I've used different supplier's tape in my business. Costco used to have really good strong packing tape. Then they switched suppliers and it's horrible and rips all the time. I had my last supplier provide me with a sample roll first before I would buy it in bulk so I could make sure it was strong. Cheap should not be the only metric.

Hello RFDers.

I am starting my own shipping company. Mainly from Canada to China (arrive in 4-5 biz days).
I am in Vancouver BC. Currently most 3rd party shippers take 3-4 weeks to arrive in China so I am the only one that can do 4-5 biz days to arrive.
Um, anyone can do 4-5 biz days to arrive if you pay for them to ship by air. The 3-4 weeks is for sea shipment and costs much less. It does not appear to me you are offering anything novel unless you are offering sea prices but air delivery.

I recently bought this from the Costco Business Centre in Toronto, it was a 8 pack for $10 on sale. I think the usual price is around $12/13
Yes it's their new low quality tape. Their old supplier was much better.

You mentioned that ULINE would't give you a deal.
Did you specify that you would open an account with them?
We have an account with ULINE and work with the outside sales to quote volume, in which the price would be loaded into our account and from their our buyers can log in, see our prices and purchase accordingly.

I called them and the rep said there are no cheaper options. The cheapest option is ordering 1000+ at once. The rep said one of the sales people will give me a call.
Did they offer cheaper pricing than the website? I probably need 20,000 boxes annually but don't want to order 1000 at once. Don't have extra space to store them.

Air = Regular price = $100 = up to 5 lb = 4-5 days
3rd party = $4.50 per lb = 3-4 weeks

$4.5 x 5lb = $22.50

From your point of view, How much are you willing to pay more to have your item arrive in 4-5 days?

If they offered cheaper options than their website they would be on the website lol. Price is based on volume not hope that you will order more. You are best to phone around to box suppliers to see who can cut you a deal based on your small ordering volume, but then why should they?

ZERO as I order well in advance so I only pay a tiny fraction of the air shipping costs.

I'm seeing discounts of 16%-20% depending on the product.

Edit: just want to point out that my pricing is through my company's (employer) account, not my own business.

If I'm correct, you're acting as a freight forwarder and we use several agents for deliveries from China to Canada, at an average price of USD $5.89/kg (no max limit, provided they are not on a pallet) for FedEx International Priority.

From China to Canada and only costs $5.89 USD per kg?

About $7.70 Cad per kg。 If I need something from Taobao, will you be able to forward to me?

Sorry, I can't help much more than providing prices for comparison,
If you search and contact "shipping agent" from China, you will get lots of hits and can contact a few for quotes.

You'll need about 1600 boxes a month based on those numbers. Since you don't want to order 1000 at a time, I'll assume 500.
So you're ordering much more expensive boxes (due additional shipping charges and lack of volume discount) once a week?
Not to mention the fact that you're handling about 100 packages per business day and can't find a place to store another couple pallets of boxes?
