Steering Squeal

Hi, I normally read the rfd hot deals forum. I signed up to ask a car question.
I have a 2014 Fusion hybrid. It is out of warranty coverage.
It makes a squealing type of noise, when I turn the steering wheel, sounds similar to when you open a door with a dry hinge.
Any ideas? Is there anything I can check myself before taking it into a shop?
Thanks.

Could be your electric power steering ready to fail, which could be very dangerous.

It could also just be a suspension bushing that's dry rotted.
Does it make the sound if you turn the wheel while parked?

Ford Fusions have a steering problem.
OP, get to a dealer quickly, it could fail. There may be a recal or TSB and the fix may be free.

There was a recall a few years ago to replace 3 rack motor bolts.

If the recall was done, inside the car, the rubber boot between the floor and steering shaft often squeaks, common problem. Can be fixed with silicone spray lube.

Took it to the dealer, they said no recalls outstanding. They said they lubed the "steering grommet" inside the car. Its been quiet ever since. They did not charge me anything either. Thanks.

Thanks. Tire pressures are good, I check them once a week. It does not have power steering fluid, I was told it does not even have a belt.
