I don't know how it is here, but I worked for a major telecommunications company in another country and we would always tell people to:
1. File a police report
2. Give us (the telco) the number of the report. (We don't need a copy, there is a separate division who deals with the police)
The police report makes it official, filing with the telco allows us to block the IMEI or ESN so that the phone is unusable on our networks. We were required to do that if it was reported to us. (If it's not unlocked, then it was up to the other companies to lock it out of their network, which didn't really happen). It also allows us to share call information with the police regardless of the SIM card used in the phone. (Yes the telcos can track all calls made from that IMEI - trust me, I've done it.)
If you are still getting harrassing phone calls on your home and cell phones, then file a complaint with your telco for those too. They take these things seriously. (Or at least the one I worked for did!)
Phone is gone and you'll probably never get it back, so just accept that fact.

We don't really care about the phone. The only thing that is annoying is the phone calls. We didn't file a police report when the phone was stolen simply because it didnt present a problem. We knew police have better things to do then track cellphones (winnipeg is homicide capital of Canada). What we want stopped is the harrassing phone calls. The person is phoning everyone on the address book, everyday minimum 5 times a day. The number is from a calling card so MTS wont block it. This is harrassment and simply noone will care.
Um thanks for advice. The phone was unlocked.Last edited by Asad_A203; Jan 22nd, 2007 at 06:28 PM.

Um for the post above. The person who stole the phone thinks it is fun to harrass everyone on the address book by calling them 4 times a day at different times of the day on a untrackable calling card. The phone SIM card was disabled first day though Rogers took 3 days to disable it. It is an unlocked phone though so they can still access the phone.

When the phone is turned on it emits a signal. Its a crime to harass people. The cell phone provider should be able to trace the phone within a few blocks according to which tower it is picking up a signal from. You claim you know the person in your class who did it or have a suspicion? Get the school admin involved since the THEFT took place at school.

Issue is somewhat resolved. MTS put a block on our line, and the guy claims he doesnt have the phone. MTS also said the day after the block was put in place, the calls stopped. Thnx again for all your help.

Interesting, Ive recently been getting calls from fort rouge. The most recent calls I've got were from the number 204-480-0223, calling at 3am.
The guy has a slightly feminine voice and was asking for Dwayne the first time he called. Didn't pickup the second time.

hey at least they are just calling to harass. One of my sister's friends lost her cellphone and the person that found it started calling all the numbers in the phonebook to tell them that either "their father died, their mother died, their aunt died"....etc
Now that is really bad.
They would pretend to be the police or a doctor.

So it is some kinda
VOip thing like the other user stated? Anyone technical enough to know? I have gotten a call from someone who claimed to be in the states asking me about my henna and tons of questions. After a lengthy converstation and after I hung up, I noticed it was a Winnipeg number (204-480-0223) and couldn't figure out why someone would claim to be from the USA and then calling from here. THEN when I try to call the number, all I get is a busy signal...I can't call back. Sooo....is this person actually from Winnpeg or not? All of the reasons etc. seem so different for everyone with experience with this number. My caller was an Indian or middle Eastern lady.

Interesting, I googled 204-480-0223 and here I am back at RFD

I too received a call from that number -they didn't talk, but I could hear noise in the background...
I got my purse stolen recently and I wonder if that has anything to do with it now.
It could possibly be VoiP -after all SHAW's number is 480-SHAW...
