Stupid and irrational mobile news

Shocking but not shocking news in Canada.

"Whether one of the big three — Bell, Telus, Rogers — buys up a competitor, regional or smaller, they tighten their stronghold on the industry," Behar said. "Competition is lessened and therefore the pricing is higher."

Canadian telecom competition ‘bordering on the irrational’: Telus CEO

https://mobilesyrup.com/2018/08/03/cana ... telus-ceo/
Telus CEO Darren Entwistle said that carrier competition in Canada negates the need for regulatory intervention from the federal government, during the company’s Q2 2018 investors call. Entwistle said that there are “more competitors in the wireless industry in Canada than just about any country in the world.” “I would say the competitive intensity is not just healthy, it’s bordering on the irrational,” said Entwistle.
What? Who is being irrational here?

Crap. Darren needs to know that pot hasn't been legalized yet. He was definitely high when he commented on the state of competition. Does he really think Telus competes with Koodo and Public Mobile?
Koodo $35/5GB and $40/6GB
Public Mobile 2016 fall promo $120/12GB/90 days
Fido $0/3GB
Rogers $25 500U home internet

Celebrating High Wireless Prices: Telus-Backed Report Claims Comparing Consumer Costs for Wireless Services is “Meaningless”

TELUS is blowing smokes.

Fact is, even in a highly dense, small country, if there's a telco oligopoly, then pricing is high. We all know Torontonians have paid off their cell towers so many times over, that Toronto wireless subscribers alone probably cover the tower costs for half the country.

The only logical conclusion here is that Darren Entwistle is indeed a pothead.
