Well Rogers did it again to me. On May 16th I got a letter from Rogers stating that if I want to continue to get all of my cable channels after May 31 I have to get a special free adapter. On the letter it states the only way to get it is to call a number provided so that I can give them my mailing address so it can be sent off. So I call the number and first of all I am saying I am real disappointed that I just got this letter so late and also stated I live in a low rise building with a tempermental building entrance system. This means if someone comes to visit and try to use it is not certain if it will work for them. Furthermore they could not tell me when the adapter would be courier let alone when it might get to me just that it would be 6 to 10 business days. I asked if there was away to pick up the adapter at their head office or at a store I would not know if the courier would come. Now sure I do not work but I cannot sit around not knowing. They said I could not pick up in office cause its not permitted as for store pick up most of them have either closed down or are in process of closing down so they are not getting equipment let alone new stock delivered. So I told them I guess I will have to take my chances with the courier if I want to continue to get all my channels. Why is it some companies get a monopoly on things and treat people like dirt. Has this or something similar occurred to any of you?

Are you sure you didn't get a letter before and skipped over it? I got my letter for this months ago and have since seen two more.
You can ask for local store pickup (which is what I did). I don't think you even need to call in. I called in and asked about it and then when I went to my closest Rogers store they said they didn't know I called in but gave me my boxes anyway.
I also asked if I was only able to get two (like the letter says) because I have more than two TV's in my home not connected to a home cable box and they gave me three instead. No additional charges in the past three or so months.
As for the last part of your post. Well it's this or nothing. Take your pick._______________

The letter was sent more then once in the mail with your bill, if you get your bills online than it's sent through that format. If you believe you didn't get either one they started calling a month ago and have a record of each attempted call. They're documenting every attempt and when push comes to shove they have a good paper trail. They were told not to argue with the customer if they claim they never got the notice but they do have the date and time recorded of each call and each paper or email notice. They should also tell you that it can be mailed, you can pick it up, or they will send a tech to install it for you.

Rogers does many stupid things and has a history of messing around their customers (including me, many times) but nothing you have written is indicative that they're treating you "like dirt".
Let's review: Rogers is giving you something for free, and it is something you need and want. They say the only method of delivery is via courier (couriers are reliable, fast, cost-effective and offer proof-of-delivery), but you are concerned that delivery will not be successful due to your building's temperamental buzzer system. Because of this, you believe Rogers is treating you like dirt and is "stupid".
It seems to me that your beef really ought to be with your landlord/building supervisor/property manager as there wouldn't be an issue with deliveries if they fixed the buzzer.
Couriers typically will try again a few times if delivery is unsuccessful or they'll leave a note on the door with a phone number for you to call to reschedule the delivery. If you get such a note, reschedule the delivery for a convenient day/time or ask about picking it up at the courier's local depot, as that is usually an option and due to your buzzer situation, might be more convenient.Last edited by RenegadeX; May 23rd, 2012 at 12:52 PM.

Well, it's not really something we need and want, when it comes down to it, it's something Rogers needs and wants. They want it so they can charge more, it's that simple.
As for courier, I'll tell you my own sad story. I phoned and ordered it in January. They told me the courier would take a week. After a couple weeks, I phoned back, and was told it was "stuck" in the system, and it would take another couple weeks. After 6 weeks I called again, still "stuck", so I offered to pick it up from one of their stores. Phoned the store, they said they had it, I asked could I hold it for pickup, they said no need, but when I got there, you guessed it, all gone. So after some days of phoning around, I went to another of their stores and managed to get one.
I asked the guy at the store do I need to do anything when I got home, and he said no, he's doing it all now. So when I got home, you guessed it, it didn't work, and I had to call again to register it.... turns out he did a half job.
So yes, Rogers is about as stupid as they come, as the title of this thread says.
In total that was about 6-8 phone calls and driving to two stores for something so simple.Last edited by fred999; May 23rd, 2012 at 04:51 PM.

Rogers is changing their cable system from analog to digital, in keeping with the whole industry. If you have Rogers cable TV, and you have an older analog TV, you'll need an adaptor, which converts the Rogers signal from digital to analog so your TV can see it.
Even if you have a newer digital TV, you'll need either an adaptor or another digital box in order to keep receiving their signals.

When it comes to my cable tv I always look through things carefully cause would not want to go to watch something and me not get what I paid for or more importantly not know when/how soon things would be able to return the norm.
Actually when I first received the letter before I called I went to the 3 closest stores in my area to attempt a pick up and when I did that and provided no luck is when I called and asked about another option or if they could ship a adapter to one of those locales. I do not recall talking to them about this before my initial call and it seemed like when I was talking to them that they had a record of us talking about this before.
My issue with Rogers and why I think I am being treated as dirt is that when I asked about the adapter being sent to a store for me to pick up or me top go to one of their offices to pick up they stated it could not be done the only option was courier. I know courier sometimes leave slips but as a person who sometimes gets things from couriers sometimes delivery personal does not always do that for one reason or another. Plus there is the issue that they could not give me a call to say okay the courier with your adapter went out today or even narrow it down to a day or 2 day window. Now I know they cannot say something like from 12 noon to 1pm but 6 to 10 business days is a little vague after all if it could be narrowed down to a day I could either try to keep a eye out for the applicable company on that day so if I saw it coming before it actually came to my building I could go meet it or even take it one step further make sure I am home on that day. I do not know about any of you but I am not able to sit around for my apartment for something could be anywhere of a wait from 1 hour to 40 hours.
Fred999,
I could tell you stories I recall summer a delivery by UPS was attempted at my place. After the first attempt was made no notice was left but the second attempt had left one but since this was the second it was now to be held at a depot. So I called the number on it to find out where the depot was and the hours. They informed me where it was and the hours. I asked them if there was one closer to me cause the depot was in North Mississauga and since I do not drive it would be extremely difficult to get to so they informed me of depot in the east end of Toronto by the waterfront they could transfer to. Which they would do and as long as I went with the notice during the hours they were opened I could pick up my item now I have seasonal allergies which often due to heat flare up in summer so I fought bad traffic and making myself sick to go to depot to pick up the item. Once I got their I handed over the notice the person asked me to show id. I informed them I had none nor did I know was going to have to show any plus on the notice which had a box indicating id must be shown before item can be turned over was not checked off. The depot person said they could not do anything so before I left I got on one of their phones to head office to explain the situation and even was stonewalled by them. So for prededing I was running in circles of trying to arrange something. Now sure I was finally able to get the item and lucky for me it was not a perishable or time sensitive item.
A little off topic here but I can a old fashion tv and a newer HD set. I have regular Rogers cable and I split the cable and use for both a DVD/VCR combo unit so I can tape stuff will I need to get 2 adapters if I still want to get all the stations and tape off them or will I be able to do this with just one adapter?
