Subaru Canada just dropped their prices!!!

A Subaru Canada insider just let me know of their December sales program to compete with US pricing. The majority of Subaru's coming from the States are the Legacy, Outback and Tribecas, and these are the ones they have focused on.

For cash paying customers (ie not financing through Subaru Canada) they are offering:

Legacy:
2.5i Sedan and Wagons $4,000.00 cash!!
Touring Sedan and Wagons: $4,500.00 cash!!
Limited Sedans: $7,000.00 cash!!
GT Limited Sedan and Wagons: $8,000.00 cash!!
Spec B Sedans: $7,000.00 cash!!
Outback:
2.5i Models: $4,000.00 cash!!
Touring Models: $4,500.00 cash!!
Limited Models: $7,000.00 cash!!
3.0R Models: $8,000.00 cash!!
3.0R Premium: $8,000.00 cash!!
2.5XT Turbo: $8,000.00 cash!!
Tribecas:
5 Passenger: $7,000.00
5 Pass LTD: $7,000.00
7 Passenger Navi/DVD: $8,000.00
So this plus the fact that Canadian Dealers have close to 10% of MSRP in negotiating room make these a fantastic deal.

Example: Take a Spec-B at $44,995.00, subtract Subaru Canada's $7,000.00 plus I'm sure that any Canadian dealer would give you and additional $3,000.00 off! (they have over $4,000.00 profit in them according to CarCost Canada)! Puts it right at WRX Pricing!!

It's about time that Subaru Canada took care of their own customers instead of making them go to the States to get a good deal!!!!

if u base it on MSRP the difference bcomes a lot less... after these incentives the price difference is still 2000 for i, 4000 for gt, 10000 for specB... (so u can imagine the difference before incentives)

but with these subaru canada incentives up here, the dealers here probably won't budge much more.

but i doubt anybody pays MSRP in the states... so i would think after u look up what subaru usa has for incentives/rebates and then negotiate some more w/ the dealer... well... the difference would still be huge

yes, I would have been...but I just imported a spanking new tribeca few weeks ago...Just in time for the snow....

Just to add that starting Jan 3, 2008, all vehicle sold to non-US resident will not be entitled to SoA rebate and incentives, and can't be count towards the salesperson's quota. That means, starting Jan 3rd, 2008, you will be talking MSRP when you deal with US dealer while now, you start your negotiation at invoice price.

So if you are planning on getting a US spec subaru, get it this month, or else it might not worth the hassle.

Interesting move by Subaru Canada, especially with the pricing for the Tribeca. The price change puts them much closer to Honda and Toyota mid-size SUV pricing now. I wonder if they will make the price reduction a permanent strategy shift.

Although real life experience savings could work out to more, I'm estimating it would be $4000 -$5000 cheaper to buy in the US for the Tribeca 5-pass limited in January 08. The difference looks bigger on a 7-pass navi edition though.

Whoever bought a Tribeca from Subaru Canada in the last 6 months before the price discounts really began must feel like quite a chump right now. Do you think Subaru Canada will give those buyers some of their $$$ back?

The fact you that you have to negotiate to get off the MSRP is a joke.

Most of the internet sales in US will glad to sell it to you at invoice price

Still not even close to being worth it to buy in Canada. The Outback I bought in the US is $37k here, less 10% negotiation, less this new $4,500 rebate, it's still around $29k. I paid $22k in the US for the same car. Plus, the 'freight and PDI' is $600 in the US, and more like $2k here.

I think the "missing link" here in the comparisons is typical Canadian fleet pricing (a la carcostcanada or APA) vs US fleet pricing (call any US internet sales dealer). The US dealers have been willing to get much closer to fleet pricing, Canadian dealers have never been willing and clearly still arent there.

Has anyone tried out one of the car negotiation services lately to get their take on Canadian pricing? It would be interesting to know what a good negotiation firm could get as a price on a Subaru now vs 3 months ago, and if they could beat a US price yet.
