Suggestions for Vacation in November

I am currently in Edmonton, Alberta and I want to go somewhere from November 8th to November 12th for the long weekend and to get away from the cold for a bit.

My budget is about $1000. This would probably be hotel+flight.

I need some suggestions as to where would be a good place to go for a short period of time.

Let me know if there are any good deals!

Thanks.

Are you looking for a beach/Caribbean vacation? Looking for culture + history? Overindulgence and glitziness? Untouched nature? I assume that since you are from Edmonton, you just need some sun. Check out http://www.sunwing.ca/ for their all-inclusives, if that floats your boat. They have Cancun for $702, which has stunning water and beaches, ruins, and of course, lots of booze and partying if you choose to accept that mission.

You probably weren't looking at the same thing. The one I was looking at was around 400 + 300.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

But seriously, if you aren't into swimming, but need a vitamin D boost, southern California is always nice. (For example San Diego and Santa Monica/Venice Beach).

By the way, adjust your dates to Saturday, returning Tuesday or Wednesday.

Edit: Even better, go to Phoenix, ride the airport's new people mover. From the airport, ride the city's light rail system and compare it with Edmonton's. Then when you are bored, rent a car and head up to the Grand Canyon (free that weekend in honour of Veterans). Return 6 hour trips from Calgary: $360. There is a Motel 6 in Williams ($50 a night), south of the Grand Canyon. You could return via Vegas if the West Edmonton Mall's casino hasn't saturated your gambling desire.
Toronto is a very small part of Canada
