[Summary] Student Internet Plans 2017

For Rogers:
I called yesterday to renew my student internet plan and was quoted the following, it's not the best but it's better than most of the 'publicly available' plans and it will save you some trouble negotiating back and forth [IMO, it is always a painful process].
They have bundle details on the website but not internet only. Below is a summary, the link is at the bottom. Valid for 12 months according to rep. Deal will expire on Sept 30.
Internet Only:
75/10, 500GB - $55 + tax
150/15, unlimited- $65 + tax
500/20, unlimited- $85 + tax
1000/30, unlimited- $110 + tax
Bundles:
with Starter Tv [35+ Channels]: internet + extra 25
with Select TV [100+ Channels]: internet + extra 30 (for 75/10) or extra 35 (for the rest)
With Popular TV [130+ Channels]: internet + extra 45 (for 75/10) or extra 50 (for the rest).

Bundles: http://www.rogers.com/consumer/residential/students
PS: the agent did ask me for my student ID, school email address and needs manager's approval to apply the discount. YMMV.

For All: activation, installation, modem rental should be included in the price, you will have to call the next year to renew the plan when it expires otherwise it will become full price. It's NOT a contract, you may cancel anytime without penalty.
Check http://www.canadianisp.ca/cgi-bin/openmedia.cgi for the ISP in your area if you are not sure.

For me: I live by the upvotes :P

FYI, Fido Student Offer is 75/10 Unlimited is $60/mo, with one free month, so works out to exactly the same without the cap.

Can people get this deal with a student in the family, or it has to be a separate account?

Does the internet deal include modem or is the modem rental extra?

Not sure about the first question, but the deal includes modem rental. I asked about this with a rep yesterday.

You really need to add the geographical location these companies operate in

None are in BC

These prices are not special considering Virgin's regular price for home internet:

25/10 unlimited $50
Best Deals: Star Alliance Silver without even flying= FREE
Fido CAN/USA Unlimited, CID/VM/SMS 2gb $33/month
3 Logitech X-230 Speakers (150% PM at Staples) = $13 each (I bought 3!)[/B]

I don't think Rogers/Fido cable are available anywhere outside Ontario, and Bell wireline services aren't available in provinces West of Ontario, Adding Bell & Rogers to the subject will probably be more descriptive than indicating which provinces are/aren't included, as I believe most folks will know who their local telephone & cable companies are.

There's also a lot of people in the Shaw threads asking if their internet is available in Toronto and Montreal. Surprisingly, people have no clue where any companies are operating.

By extension, these won't be available in Alberta either, but it's not Like Bell or Rogers offer home internet in BC/AB anyways so it shouldn't be a surprise for anyone. That's like going to a Videotron thread and complaining that they aren't available in BC.

Spoke to a Rogers rep for an internet only plan, and they said there will be a $50 installation fee (something about installing fiber, I'm in a brand new townhouse). Does that sound right or did I get a bad rep?

When I re-signed last year, it was year 2 of these student deals with free modern rental + no installation fee.
